• For our upcoming Pathfinder 2 campaign, we are going to be running the soon-to-be-published Age of Ashes campaign from Paizo. With this campaign, I am going to make the attempt to restart my video logs of the game sessions, and hopefully improve the end result a bit from various lessons I have learned from previous attempts. To that end, I am starting to work on collecting and assembling graphics, art, and my thoughts, to try to streamline the process as much as possible. Ideally, most of the cosmetic pieces will be pre-built, and I can focus on the editing of…

  • In our latest episode, the group continued their exploration of the Kamelands, branching further away from Oleg’s Trading Post. With several missions and quests in hand, the group is a bit fragmented, but rapidly getting organized. As a change for this campaign, I am requiring all the players to track their own gear. In the prior storyline, given their newness to RPGs and the number of players, it was just easier for me to either track the details, and/or gloss over much of the mundane pieces. Now that they are veterans, and partially due to the nature of the Kingmaker…

  • Ended up not posting at all last week, thanks to a Spring Break for the family. Officially it was just the kids and spring break from school, but I opted to take the week for a vacation from work as well. Had some good times with the family – we spent the early part of the week working on the backyard in preparation for hopefully selling the house. Did not get quite as far as intended, thanks to rain later in the week. Also managed to relax playing a lot of Atlas with the family and Division 2 with the…

  • For something completely different, we nearly added a 3rd dog to our family today. My wife, on the way to drop off the son at school, found a labrador puppy wandering the streets loose. Preventing the inevitable roadside collision, she picked it up and brought it home. There, our other dogs, Scully (a small terrier mix), and Mulder (our recent Boxer addition), eagerly accepted the new addition to the family. In keeping with the theme I quickly dubbed him “Skinner”, though I was then informed that he was actually a she. Regardless, Skinner had been selected, and would have become…

  • Continued our Kingmaker campaign on Sunday, with the full crowd this time. Having established themselves at Oleg’s Trading Post, the group started their exploration, and located a giant spider nest nearby. Deciding it was best to investigate and eliminate the threat, they initially were attacked by a single spider – which was defeated rather easily. A bit overconfident, the war priest and fighter jumped down the hole, tumbling to the bottom deep inside the warren. Rather immediately they were set upon by the rest of the spider’s colony, and quickly overwhelmed. The rest of the group, a bit more cautious…

  • Switching topics over to the video game arena, today is the release of the long awaited Atlas 1.5 “MegaUpdate”. If you are not familiar with Atlas, it is a survival sandbox game with a pirate theme – and one that continues to hold the attention of our family. Up until recently, we were playing on the official PVE servers, but with the announcement of this update a few weeks ago, they also added a planned wipe. This seemed like a good opportunity to swap worlds, and we moved over to a Patreon-funded IronGeeks server set. Here we have rebuilt our…

  • Second attempt at a custom wax stamp, and second failure – though there is notable improvement. With a much more robust handle and base, the PLA did not warp and melt this time, which is an improvement. And with some internet suggestions of oiling the surface, the wax did not stick as much. However, the oil apparently was only on the surface, so once the wax entered the pattern itself, it locked itself in immediately. This of course then destroyed the impression (and the stamp). Going to reprint the stamp, and then try brushing oil on the surface (instead of…

  • A while ago, I posted a wax stamp handout I had created for our Pathfinder campaign – some formal writs of authority the group was granted. At the time, I ended up with a compromise solution – a basic store-bought stamp of a generic pattern and “flexible” wax. The result was workable, but not quite the feel I was going for. Since then, I did a bit of research, and have acquired proper “brittle” wax. I have also come up with a design for a custom stamp, which I can print in the 3d printer. Gave the new materials a…
