In preparation for Season 3 of our Pathfinder campaigns, scheduled to start early in August with the release of the Second edition Pathfinder rules and the Age of Ashes adventure path, I have been working to re-evaluate and redesign my podcast capabilities. Apparently the terminology for this is now an “Active Play” podcast – a podcast which records and broadcast the active RPG session. It can be done live, or pre-recorded. I am most definitely going with pre-recorded, live is just far too complex for a single person to manage in real time, while also running a game session.

Starting the preparations for the annual Magic: The Gathering Tournament we hold everything Thanksgiving. As before, I am 3d-printing the trophy, the model for which gave me some challenges this year. Previously, I had broken the model into 4 pieces, which I then assembled into a solid piece at the end. This year, due to a bit of confidence with the printer, I have decided to break it into only 2 pieces – the base, and the sword – with a keyed slot to connect. This “should” be stronger for the connection, more consistent with the printing, and easier to…

With our most recent session, the group continued their exploration of the Kamelands, and managed a bit of success. We first concluded the battle against the bandit camp – unfortunately the Sorcerer was lost when the group was unable to stop his slaying after the group as a whole decided against surrendering. However, that provided them the motivation to emerge victorious against the bandits as a whole, ultimately winning the battle. With the surviving bandits in tow, they returned to Oleg’s outpost to claim their rewards and sell of their winnings. Mysteriously though, during the journey, someone or something crept…

Finished the printing of the pieces for the ancient red dragon, and did a bit of quick assembly. The pieces are still rough, and could use at least a coat of a primer, if not a full painting, but overall I am rather happy with the results. I included a Valeros figure for reference. The base size is 5×5, which puts it (for Pathfinder) slightly larger than Gargantuan, but smaller than Collosal – which is just about right for an ancient wyrm red dragon. Of course this is all assumptions related to the upcoming campaign – in August I may…

In preparation for the upcoming Age of Ashes Pathfinder campaign, I decided I could use my 3d printer to create some of the big bads of the story. Of course, I don’t have any of the details yet, but I know the adventure includes several dragons, and at least one major red dragon. So I have been using a model to create a print for a gigantic red dragon, to be painted and finished at a later date. With my printer, this requires the model to be broken into several pieces just to fit in the print volume, then assembled…

It seems googly eyes make everything better. Some time ago, I attached a pair to my 3-d printer, and then due to a lack of projects, forgot all about it. Started a new project yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to see the printer staring back at me in the camera. Gives me a chuckle each time I look at it now.

Been suffering quite a bit of slow activity recently, and missing my own schedule for postings. Given that I have tried to make this into a daily habit, it causes me a bit of stress each day that I end up missing. However, life and work seem to be troublesome at times. Most of my challenge was work, with a lengthy Disaster Recovery exercise that did not go very well, and resulting in many long hours. That then turned into personal illness, as I was fighting a bit of flu. Either way, hobby pursuits dropped to lower priority. Upcoming, I…

Coming off a couple of 16+ hour shifts with work, with likely another one or two coming up, thanks to our annual disaster recovery exercise. Between the drill and the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, it seems most of the rest of the support staff have conveniently disappeared. As such, it makes it a bit challenging to stay focused. Managing to survive so far, but my age is certainly making it much harder to stay engaged, compared back when I was in my twenties. Back then, a 72 hour shift was not unheard of.
