I am no stranger to miniature and terrain painting, but admittedly my technique is fairly traditional (and likely outdated). With my recent acquisition of an airbrush, I am trying to learn and take advantage of the new processes – hopefully to streamline and improve my painting. Basically, my current process is paint a primer, and layer on a series of opaque paint layers. Once the base coat is down, I use washes and drybrushing to develop shadows and highlights. Simple, basic, and effective – at least to the level of quality I am looking for. With an airbrush however, the…

Continuing my design for a light marker for tabletop gaming, and currently have the pictured design. This one is functional enough that we were able to utilize it during our latest session – although the group didn’t actually need any lights. And it is durable enough now that it didn’t break during use. The design remains simple – a pair of leads on either side of a battery, connected to the LED. The LED is now a nano-LED, the light is actually smaller than the two wires together, though it gives off plenty of light. Next to the battery, I…

For our second campaign group, we have been running thru the Fall of Plaguestone adventure, as an introduction to the Pathfinder 2e ruleset and basic training for the group. Most of the group is new to RPGs, and everyone is new to 2nd edition. For the most part, the adventure has gone well – the group has learned their roles, and adjusted to the story. Of course, there are challenges here and there – the dynamics of the group were rather rough to start with – but the group in general succeeded. Unfortunately, during the 3rd major scene of the…

Side project I have been working on is a clear marker for who is holding the light in RPG groups. Commonly, we have found that we forget about light, and have difficulty with the group remembering where the light is, during a game session. Sometimes this isn’t important, but many times it can play a big part in the current scenario. In the past, we tried to just remember – but that was hit and miss at best. With the shrinking of electronics however these days, my concept is to use a small LED light and a button cell battery,…

I finally decided to dive further into the painting hobby, and have ordered an Airbrush kit, to be delivered this week. Airbrushing, specifically for hobby gaming and painting, has been a casual interest of mine over the years, but was always intimidating. I am much more of a traditionalist, with brushes doing drybrushing and washes. For the most part, I consider myself passable. However, given the limited time and scheduling, and my increased volume from 3d printing, I am falling further behind on painting that I really do want to complete. From my research, airbrushing is faster (for some parts),…
