  • As part of my growing terrain collection for Star Wars Legion, I opted to 3d print a scale model of the Razorcrest from the Star Wars Mandalorian series. This was a pretty long print, even with the low infill, but the model ended up pretty good. It is perhaps a bit too small and out of scale, but in my mind it is “close enough” – pictured here with a few of my Wookie warrior figures. Unless I had wanted to break it into even more pieces, this was the limit of the Prusa i3 printer. The model is from…

  • As part of my video prep for the latest Age of Ashes session, I finished up the painting of the Dragon Pillar terrain piece I was working on. As mentioned previously, this is less “dragon” and much more “tiki”, mixing up the various cultures, but for our gaming purposes this was solid replacement. Painted, it is I think a rather good piece for the storyline. The model is based on the Tiki Statue by Elstorm on Thingiverse, which itself is mixed from prior models. I scaled the model, duplicated and rotated it for four faces, and added a bulk block…

  • Up until yesterday, I had hopes that we would be able to continue with the face to face gaming schedule. Unfortunately, as the reality sets in, this is becoming less likely, so I am taking steps now to convert to online formats. I have configured a Discord server for our use, for voice chat. Conceivable it will be usable for video as well, but prior efforts have shown that to be difficult and unreliable. I have also configured our Fantasy Grounds instance for multiple players – fortunately with my Unity Ultimate license there is no additional cost required. The big…

  • As the Coronavirus continues to demolish the economy and most social interaction, I am working to proactively protect our hobby and gaming efforts. To this end, although we have not yet stopped our current live games, I am putting together processes to migrate to an online format. Fortunately these days, online RPG tools are abundant and fairly solid. We will be converting voice and chat to a Discord format – we used this previously for a Shadowrun campaign and it was rather successful. At the time, I was overly optimistic and opted for video conferencing – that wasn’t too useful.…

  • With Ohio declaring a school closing schedule thanks to Covid, and my travel being suspended for the foreseeable future, I expect I will have more than a bit of time for terrain building and painting. Fortunately, the Clorehaven Tavern print is just about done – I am finishing up the doors and accessories this evening. The next stage will of course be painting and decorations, which likely will take a couple of days by itself. The model ran for just shy of 5 print-days, with a total mass so far of 850 grams. To the credit of the printer, none…

  • In an effort to continue the 3d printing, I was convinced to explore larger options for filament – specifically larger rolls of 1.75mm filament. To that end, I purchased a 5 kg spool from Gizmodorks. However, my current storage option is a bit too tiny for the oversized bulk of the new spool. More importantly, it is located high above the printer, and I am rather concerned about a structural failure resulting in printer damage. Pictured is the full spool, next to a Godzilla plushy for scale. Assuming I can sort a reliable way to feed the filament into the…

  • Thanks to ongoing Coronavirus concerns, work has decided to suspend all non-critical travel for the foreseeable future. The good news is that I no longer have to travel to Toledo frequently, the bad news is the outbreak continues to cause escalating disruptions. This may give me more time for hobby efforts, at least until we are forced to suspend our gatherings as well.
