Since I received, built, and have been using my new 3d printer, one of the challenges it has faced is the reliability of the filament sensor. Admittedly, this is one of the big selling points for the Prusa i3 MK3s – the filament sensor auto-detects filament and can pause a print when it runs out, along with auto-loading new filament simply by inserting the end. Unfortunately, the manufacturing tolerance for this function is particularly sensitive, and as assembled, it simply didnt work. I tried a few hacks – inserting shims and making adjustments – but ultimately I just disabled the…

In preparation for the secondary Pathfinder campaign, the Fall of Plaguestone, I crafted a pair of water features for the terrain. I had previously posted about this, but now the models are fully painted, and filled with resin. Overall, I am rather happy with the results. The clear resin worked very well, and I managed to eliminate all the bubbles – the result is a glass like clarity. If anything, it may be too clear – perhaps some debris or other material would have improved it. The color transition on the clean water isnt exactly what I was hoping for…

Revising the intro to our campaign videos a bit, to try to streamline and shorten the start. Basically, feedback I received was that it was too long waiting for the actual content – which is definitely true. With some revision and consolidation, I trimmed out about 30 seconds. It does seem like much, but for YouTube, 30 seconds is quite long. I have also worked out a process to generate thumbnails with a bit more interest than the basic text on black. I am definitely not a graphic designer, so it is still very rudimentary, but hopefully it will be…

Sometime ago, I printing a 3d model of a Batman statue, on my prior printer. Since then, the model fell a few times, and the PLA was damaged. With the new printer, and my Marble filament (which I am liking quite a bit), I figured it was time to revisit this print and re-create it. I have just about settled on an arrangement now for Octolapse which gives me a good timelapse, and a solid camera to take quality pictures. As a result, I think the timelapse is quite a bit improved compared to previous efforts. I am hoping to…

Its that time again, and registration for the 2020 Gencon Convention in Indianapolis is coming up. Badge sales open January 26, and our gaming group (Huber Tabletop) is planning on attending for our second year. Not sure yet of our total numbers, but I do know of at least 5 going thus far. Fortunately we learned a lot from the experience last year, and are better coordinated this time. We have a reasonable and hopefully available hotel selected, and we know to pre-register for events early. And we will of course be crafting a new custom group t-shirt, once we…

For our second RPG group, we are starting to reach the end of the introductory adventure, The Fall of Plaguestone. The group of 7 players has been fairly successful, though they are of course having to adapt to their particular characters – in some cases with varying degrees of success. For several, this is the first RPG game they have played. For others, this is the first Pathfinder 2e game. And a couple have been active gamers for sometime. The Fall of Plaguestone For the story, I am estimating that we will wrap up the adventure in the next couple…

Traveling again thanks to my day job, visiting the Toledo area (as usual). This definitely causes an impact on my hobby activities – video editing is reduced to my laptop’s capabilities, and 3d printing is a bit more problematic (though still possible thanks to Octoprint). Currently working on some more terrain in preparation for our upcoming games. Tentatively, I am hoping to have a pool of goo type terrain piece ready in time for Sunday. The model coincidental – it is a terrain piece based on Crater Lake in Oregon, re-based to serve as a wargaming crater. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2217287 For my…

A side benefit of using customized STL files for miniatures – I can have some fun with them and print oversized options. In particular, our first character, Norm, I re-printed as a 300% collectible statue for my son. This takes advantage of the detail of the model, and gave me a chance to try out a Marble filament. Although I had some challenges with supports, the model turned out pretty good. There is a flaw in the quiver on the back, but without knowing about it, the issue is not noticeable. For scale, I have the game-ready figure (minus paint)…
