Shadowrun Space

Been pondering options for a sci-fi campaign, now that our Starfinder game has been closed down. Admittedly, I was not a big fan of the Starfinder system (it felt a bit forced for the intent), but I am always a fan of science fiction. The general setting was solid enough, though perhaps a bit too similar to traditional fantasy Pathfinder (which I know is intentional). But it got me thinking of other alternatives that would work well, which ended up with me landing on Shadowrun.

As a cyberpunk game, Shadowrun is one I have always liked – it has the fantasy elements if you want them, but they can be easily trimmed out if not. And the overall system is workable enough to make combat a risk, while providing lots of alternatives. And there is ample source material.

To convert it to a sci-fi game would not be that challenging – simply substitute corporate arcologies for space stations, and sewers for space ships. Some basic changes would be needed – there are no mechanics for space combat or the long distances typically involved, but I think it could be fairly workable.

Not sure when or if I will actually try to run such a game, but perhaps it is something I will try once one of the Pathfinder stories wrap up, or as yet another game once we are in the new home. Either way, it is an interesting idea for me to ponder, and inspire myself for various storylines.
