• With our upcoming Magic the Gathering Tournament, scheduled for November 21, I need to finalize my plans for the victory trophy.  I posted a picture many weeks ago of the progress with painting – this is a 3d printed model that I am hand-painting.  However, I have been procrastinating since then and only recently worked on it further.  Several hours later over the weekend, and here is the current status.  I still have a few more decorations to add, mainly gemstones in the sword hilt and some berries on the vine leaves, but it is otherwise complete.  Still debating if…

  • Although we had a shorter than normal session today (thanks to the combo of a dead car battery delaying the start, and a work related “emergency” causing an early end), the group managed to make their first foray into the lost city of Xin-Shalast.  Surprisingly, they opted for a stealth attempt, and between a combination of Silence, Mass Invisibility, and Animal Shapes (form of the rat), they were rather successful.  They easily avoided the patrols on the entry walls, and managed to sneak into the main city, where they then moved between buildings, searching for an entrance to the hidden…

  • First half of the paint rack project is together, consisting of 3 printed sections.  Obviously still need to sort an organize the colors themselves, but wanted to collect what I have so far together.  I am still working on the rest of the stands, and likely will need a lift of some sort for the back rows.  But I like how it is turning out already. • Continuing our efforts to kick off and push thru the challenges of online gaming, with our Shadowrun RPG campaign.  We are still using Roll20 – the software works well for maps and dice rolling, but we continue to be challenged with the audio and video.  At this stage, for our latest game we swapped back over to Discord.  In reality, the video aspect really doesn’t add much.  As long as everyone is attentive and at their computer, audio is all that is needed – so Discord is a good solution.  And the background capability of video and audio through Roll20…

  • Upgrades are in place, and the printer is (fingers crossed) working reliably and well – the past several days I have been finishing up a larger project printing paint bottle racks for storage of my painting set.  It requires several trays, and each tray ends up printing for about 36 hours, which is certainly a good test of the stability of the system.  So far, everything is working well. I did have an issue with warping printing on glass – despite reducing the extruder to 200 degrees and the glass up to 70 degrees.  As a result, I ended up…

  • Been slowly bulking up my X-Wing forces as well, with the addition of two new figures.  First is the TIE Advanced, so that we can properly use Darth Vader (or one of those other pilots no one thinks about).  This model of course will be intimidating, only because it is Vader, and we can now cleanly match him up with Luke on the Rebel side. The second model is the BTL-A4 Y-Wing, a bomber and turreted figure, and one I have been eager to try out.  X-Wings of course make up the bulk of our fledgling X-Wing squadrons, but I…

  • Expanded the Imperial forces a bit over the weekend, acquiring the AT-ST for Star Wars: Legion.  Admittedly, it is a model I would be happy collecting, regardless of if we played the game.  But Ben was very eager to add it to his forces as well, and continues to be eager to play some more.  Pictured with an unpainted stormtrooper for scale, it is larger than I would have expected.  Even nicer, most of the joints are loose and unglued – the tolerance on the mold is pretty good, meaning that it remains an adjustable figure.  I may end up…

  • The replacement fan arrived on time, was a simple install, and quite happily appears to have solved my latest issues.  Heat creep no longer appears to be a problem – the extruder motor is comfortably cool, and after a quick re-leveling of the bed, the printer is functional again.  I am re-running a larger print which has been on hold, to continue to expand my paint storage, and fingers are crossed that it will complete successfully sometime early this morning. To be cautious, I did run a calibration test, which allowed for plenty of heat up time, just to be…
