Pondering game options

With the upcoming conclusion of our Pathfinder game, it is time to consider our next campaign. I have plenty of material for more Pathfinder, that has never been in short supply, but the big driving factor is the upcoming 2nd edition release in August. Due to this, we don’t really want to start another long term campaign (and either cancel or convert later). However, we are also challenged with the size of the group – many game systems simply don’t lend themselves to being taught to 10 players at a given time, or are overly simplistic (leading to my boredom).

I have several options, some of which I am more or less eager for, or have tried with smaller groups recently. All are solid game systems, but the challenge will be preparing and creating characters for the large group.

Of course, we can always play more Pathfinder – it is a solid game, and well known now to our group. A short campaign, or a short series of one-off adventures would certainly be do-able. However, after 3+ years of the same game, I am eager to switch it up some.

I have strongly considered going old school, with the old West End Games Star Wars RPG. Star Wars is well known, and the rules are available in PDF. Back in the day when this was a current game system, we had a lot of fun, and I recall it being light and simple, but with enough detail to keep attention.

Similar, would be a return to the old edition of Warhammer Roleplay. We tried semi-successfully a GURPs game set in that setting, which worked very well for a small group, but for 10 players would be far too complex without seriously trimming the options. However, the old game itself was straight forward and not too complicated, with lots of options but limited choice (which is a plus).

I would be very eager also to try a Champions/Hero System campaign with the group – with the kids and their creativity, I would be eager to see what sort of super heroes they could come up with. However, this would also have to be more of a pre-packaged creation – the number of options and details involved are just too much for a large group. Even our experienced groups can spend days tweaking and adjusting their designs – but the storyline would be interesting.

Not yet set on my direction, but if you have any suggestions for old or new games, I would be interested in hearing. If you had a group of 10 regular players, what game or storyline would you introduce for a 6 month period?
