• My recent game of X-Wing with my son got me inspired to start designing and testing an organization tray, similar to my design for Armada.  Basically, just a way to keep the cards organized with the tokens, since the game has a lot of little pieces.  My goal is to have something simple for each ship, with an expandable option for each upgrade – since each ship can have a variable number of upgrades.  Stayed up a bit overly late the first night, but came up with a draft format, that after a bit of additional adjustments, seems like it…

  • Enjoying family time tonight, as the kids go out trick-or-treating for Beggar’s Night.  Ben is very happy with his inflatable gorilla costume, and it looks like George will recycle his “dead guy” costume from last year.  As usual, the grandparents will be over to help hand out candy, and we will no doubt have pizza.  Unfortunately, the weather does not look too good this year – not cold enough for snow, but with steady rain expected.  I expect the turnout in our neighborhood may be lower than typical years.

  • Finished a fairly massive print today of an Imperial Turbo Laser Tower, scaled for Star Wars: Legion.  This was actually my second attempt at the main tower piece – the first one ended up running my spool of filament dry at about 98%.  Total print time was 3 hours and 40 minutes for the top two pieces (the tower top, and barrels), and another 14 hours and 49 minutes for the base section.  All pieces printed with 0.2 mm layer heights and 10% infill.  As before, an unpainted Stormtrooper for scale. There is some rather obvious ghosting on the sides…

  • Managed to survive camping with the kids over the weekend in the forests of Ohio, despite the near freezing temperatures, solid wind, and nearly constant rain.  The scouts ended up having a blast, and plenty of activities that kept us running from morning to night.  Unfortunately, everything had a solid coating of mud, so it will take a few days to fully clean and put away everything.  That will go well with my sore muscles, which will take at least as long to get back to normal.

  • Heading out this weekend for some camping with my kids.  The youngest finishing up his last requirements as a Cub Scouts, before graduating to the Boy Scouts, and my oldest as a Boy Scout Den Chief, assisting the cubs.  Will have a large group of cub and boy scouts with us, as we brave the cold, camp in the woods, and enjoy scouting activities.  As part of the challenge, the Cubs are responsible for all the cooking, so it could be a hungry weekend. Next week I have planned some vacation time, so perhaps I can finally get caught up…

  • As previously posted, our attempts at getting a Shadowrun campaign have been overly hit and miss, due to numerous reasons.  Unfortunately, it has been more miss than hit, and for that reason, along with challenges in the general format, we are going to be disbanding the effort.  It may live on in another format (likely a live game), but for now, our efforts using Roll20 and virtual tabletop software are being paused. Overall, I think it was a successful experiment – I am happy with the results of Roll20, and for the most part, the game itself ran well.  The…

  • The printer has been running for long hours, but I finally have the overall paint rack completed.  Each section holds 20 paint bottles, and ran on the printer for about 25 hours.  For the back row, I customized a riser piece to match the design, and bring them up to the same slope – each of these pieces added another 17 hours.  But the final result I am rather happy with – I can see each of the options, and once I sort the various colors expect that it will be much faster to find the shade I am looking…

  • With our upcoming Magic the Gathering Tournament, scheduled for November 21, I need to finalize my plans for the victory trophy.  I posted a picture many weeks ago of the progress with painting – this is a 3d printed model that I am hand-painting.  However, I have been procrastinating since then and only recently worked on it further.  Several hours later over the weekend, and here is the current status.  I still have a few more decorations to add, mainly gemstones in the sword hilt and some berries on the vine leaves, but it is otherwise complete.  Still debating if…
