• We had a fun tournament, with quite a few players for our annual tournament.  Ended up with fewer players than last year, apparently several felt pre-cooking for Thanksgiving was a higher priority, and some of last years players were out of town.  But those that did show up had a lot of fun, and we ended up playing several rounds.  Format was a double-elimination bracket setup, which did end up being a bit complex once we got started (I was using cards to sort everyone, and started getting confused about half-way thru).  Everyone was friendly and social though, so it…

  • We had our Pathfinder session this last weekend, and after nearly 3 years, the group has finally arrived at the pinnacle of Mhar Massif, to face off against the elite agents of the enemy, and face the Runelord Karzoug himself.  This starts the endgame of the campaign, which optimistically I am expecting to finish off in the next several sessions, potentially by the end of the year.  Hopefully, all players can be present with the holidays – our schedule fortunately avoids most of the major conflicts.  If they end up going slow, then it may stretch into January or even…

  • Wrapped up and finished the first place trophy for our upcoming tournament, by adding the final details.  Likely will still add a coating of sealant, just to help protect it a bit, but it is otherwise complete.  Overall, I am happy with the results, and the design works well.  I may adjust it a bit next year, and try to get the print lines a bit more smooth, but for a hand-made trophy it turned out very nice.  Hopefully the winner of the competition will enjoy it as well. This was printed many months ago using Hatchbox Gray PLA, then…

  • Enjoying our final Cub Scout event with the annual Space Derby.  The boys all craft, carve, and sand a small wooden “rocket”, which is then propelled by a rubber-band propeller.  Lots of fun seeing all the designs, and just how fast many of them can end up going.  After this, we have a single remaining Den Meeting, and then our crop of Webelos cross over into the Boy Scouts (now Scouts of America) in early December.  And at that point, our commitment as Den Leaders comes to an end, with the last of my boys finishing up. No doubt it…

  • The weather here has turned cold, rainy, wet, and icy, which means seasonal illnesses are back.  Both my son and I are suffering from sinus issues, with lots of coughing, sneezing, and blowing of the noses.  Fortunately, this tends to be short lived, which will be nice with the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.  But it still makes for a few rough days and nights.

  • Managed to play a game of X-Wing this past Sunday, and for the first time, managed to actually finish the game without running out of time.  The battle was pretty good, though due to lucky dice rolls it ended up going bad quickly for the Empire.  For our fleets, we are stretching the rules a bit – officially each team is only supposed to field one faction, but since we want to use the Millenium Falcon and Slave I, we have opted to allow Scum add-ons.  Basically, we build a Scum list, and a Rebel or Empire list, and the…

  • I think I am giving up on the early morning posting schedule – it was an interesting experiment.  Overall, I can’t say my visitor count improved at all, in fact it seemed like it dropped a bit.  Though admittedly at my volume, any change of +1 or -1 is a major shift.  The biggest impact however was the challenge of posting content in time for the deadline.  Although I managed to pre-post a large number of the articles, whenever I was stuck or distracted by work, it became a challenge to post something first thing in the morning.  This way,…

  • Continuing my collection of the initial releases of the X-Wing Second edition starships, and added the Millenium Falcon (Lando version).  Initially, I was not excited about the model – the addition of the escape pod in the front just doesn’t seem right and makes the ship look weird.  But after digging a bit, I discovered that it was a detachable ship, and the model was really two in one.  Win win in my book.  The colors are still a bit bright and new for the “real” Falcon, but I can deal with that easy enough. Also managed to pick up…
