• Managed to play a game of X-Wing this past Sunday, and for the first time, managed to actually finish the game without running out of time.  The battle was pretty good, though due to lucky dice rolls it ended up going bad quickly for the Empire.  For our fleets, we are stretching the rules a bit – officially each team is only supposed to field one faction, but since we want to use the Millenium Falcon and Slave I, we have opted to allow Scum add-ons.  Basically, we build a Scum list, and a Rebel or Empire list, and the…

  • I think I am giving up on the early morning posting schedule – it was an interesting experiment.  Overall, I can’t say my visitor count improved at all, in fact it seemed like it dropped a bit.  Though admittedly at my volume, any change of +1 or -1 is a major shift.  The biggest impact however was the challenge of posting content in time for the deadline.  Although I managed to pre-post a large number of the articles, whenever I was stuck or distracted by work, it became a challenge to post something first thing in the morning.  This way,…

  • Continuing my collection of the initial releases of the X-Wing Second edition starships, and added the Millenium Falcon (Lando version).  Initially, I was not excited about the model – the addition of the escape pod in the front just doesn’t seem right and makes the ship look weird.  But after digging a bit, I discovered that it was a detachable ship, and the model was really two in one.  Win win in my book.  The colors are still a bit bright and new for the “real” Falcon, but I can deal with that easy enough. Also managed to pick up…

  • Going to be a busy next couple of weeks, as I prepare for our upcoming Magic: The Gathering tournament.  I still have to finish up the last pieces of the trophy I have been working on, in between what seems to be nearly constant rain.  In addition, my trips to Toledo are more numerous, limiting my free time in the evenings.  Fortunately, we have all but suspended our Shadowrun game, which leaves Sunday mornings every other week open, which will be helpful.  However those days are also going to be likely assigned to the numerous board and strategy games I…

  • By this point, the new expansion for Ark: Survival Evolved will be released, and hopefully our custom server will be running the new Extinction content.  The wife is rather eager for the new material – she has plans of taming and crafting the new materials in the fresh land to explore.  Personally, I am fairly neutral on the whole Ark game at this point, to me it feels like rinse and repeat each time, but I am sure we will all give it a try again to see if there is really any change in the process.

  • Over the last several months, I have commented at times about how I had intended or planned for one action or another, and then ended up failing to deliver on my own claims.  This seems to be a common situation, and one for which I envy regular content creators who are able to reliably complete their goals.  Perhaps I am over eager, perhaps I am unrealistic, or perhaps life is just too complicated.  Regardless, it seems to be a common catch-22 in which my good intentions struggle with the reality of life and scheduling. Although it is not an excuse,…

  • Posting a bit late, since I have resumed work after a brief one week holiday.  Needless to say, my email is rather backlogged, with all the issues that came up while I was not watching. For the vacation, we had a good time – plenty of fun with the family, camping with the kids, and a visit from my Dad.  I of course did not get done as much as I wanted to, or probably should have, but I was able to sleep in a bit here and there, and tackled several projects I wasn’t aware of before hand.  Halloween…

  • Continued to tweak and adjust the organization trays I have been working for X-Wing, and I think I have a solution design at this point.  Ended up not being as thin as I had hoped, but everything fits, and more importantly, the upgrade pieces connect well.  Going to test it out a bit in an actual game or two, after I get a chance to print out a few copies, but I am liking it already. In some ways, it may be better to move to tokens to the left, and make the height equal to the ship card, but…
