• As expected, with the short session this last game, the editing ran remarkably fast – I was able to upload the video last night, and queue it up for publishing next week on schedule. Total length came in at about 50 minutes, which was longer than I expected, but the amount of recorded footage was significantly shorter. Been toying with the idea of pre-releasing the video for Patreon backers, but honestly I doubt there is any interest – and certainly not a large enough audience. In truth, I am holding off mainly because I don’t want to restrict my own…

  • As part of my recording kit, I have been looking for a low cost, used camcorder, to match my current pair. Specifically, this would be a Canon Vixia HF R800. I have been watching Amazon for a sale, but mainly reviewing Facebook Marketplace for inexpensive options. Yesterday I managed to locate one, for a good price, in good condition, which came with a tripod (bonus). I reached out to the seller, and yes, it was still available. And then they stopped responding, when I asked where and when to meet – no response since. At this point, I expect it…

  • Unfortunately, our Age of Ashes campaign session this week was a bit shortened after an emergency call from my day-job. We managed to only get about 2 hours into the game, when I had to cancel the session entirely. The good news is that editing will be correspondingly faster this week, the bad news is that the group was particularly exciting and involved in the game at the time. Currently evaluating if we will try to fit in an extra game this Sunday, or hold off until our normal schedule.

  • Publishing the 4th episode this week, where the group finally locates and rescues the Bumblebrasher goblins. This one was a rather fun session, the group was rather invested by the time they fought the graulodons, and there was a lot of challenging actions. Continuing to improve the video itself – the audio is a little better (though there is still some echo), and I am much happier with the camera angles. With the repositioning of the camera, I ended up capturing a fair bit of the behind the gm-screen material, so I opted to blur it out. Not really a…

  • On the website, I am trying to encourage more comments and discussion, so for at least a time, I am going to disable the requirement to list an email address and name. Comments still have to be approved (to avoid spammers), and the auto-blocking tools are still in place (again, for spamming), but perhaps this will encourage the occasional visitor to leave a comment or two. In general, I get a vast number of comments, but practically every one is automatic spam entries. Current metrics are showing 204,000 spam comments (all blocked), and 9 “real” comments through out the website.…

  • During the recent Gencon convention, I obtained a sampling of Adventure Scents, from Oddfish Games. These attempt to replicate the smells of various environments frequently encountered during an adventuring session, such as a Moldy Crypt, or a Smoky Campfire. The idea is to add another element to put the group into the mood of the game., and it is something I have been curious to try in our ongoing game. Since then, I have used the smells a few times in our sessions. Though they certainly work, and cause the expected reactions, I have found they are challenging for our…

  • I didn’t end up taking any new pictures, so here is an old picture. Last Friday, I finally got motivated enough to paint up the rest of my True-Tiles collection, to match with the prior pieces. It was a nagging project, one which was front and center with our new campaign and the videos that document it. So I felt it was time to finally get to work and actually paint the rest of the pieces. Fortunately, the process is fairly painless and fast – a quick prime in black, and a heavy dry brush in dark grey. Finish it…

  • With our Age of Ashes campaign, I have been collecting a bit of royalty-free music, to use as background for the videos. On a whim, I decided it might be worthwhile to release as an overall collection, or a soundtrack of the campaign. Notes are included on the start of each track, what the original source is, and what the in-game use for that track is. Of course, some are trimmed to fit the video, and in some cases haven’t been used yet. Will likely add to the content as more music is required, and perhaps release a mp3 collection…
