About this time last year, I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, an event that rather significantly has now adjusted my life. Initially, the direction from the doctor was some medication, and an effort to reduce and eliminate sugared foods. For the first 6 months or so, this worked well – my blood sugar levels dropped, though not that far, and not to last. Realistically, I became overconfident with the medication, and lazy with the diet. Over time, this “improvement” faded, and several months ago, the prognosis was not good. As an adjustment, the doctor instructed me to adjust the medication from…

I tend to not post much about my professional work, mainly because it has little to do with my hobby efforts. Jokingly, until my YouTube career truly takes off, and my hobby and work align in harmony (which realistically may never happen), the two are mutually exclusive. However, recent events have caused an increased load from the work side, as the current support contract continues to expand in scope and responsibility. My current boss for the last few years decided to retire, and after a bit of interviewing and discussion, I have stepped into the role. This brings with it…

As I have posted, we have been attempting to continue our ongoing gaming efforts remotely, so that we don’t have to cancel the campaigns. For this effort, we have been using Fantasy Grounds, which as a product has worked very well. The software is stable, and the features continue to be enhanced (we are using the classic version, instead of Unity). And although we had some technical difficulties adapting, it has turned out to be a good alternative. However, I have noticed a different trend. Most of the draw of roleplaying games is the “roleplaying” part of the game. Since…

By this time, our pre-drywall inspection should now be completed, and insulation should be installed. As of tomorrow, the project starts the drywall – a step that is supposed to take 7-10 days. From there, we move into hopefully cosmetics and other finishing touches, hopefully still on target for a closing date near the end of the month. Barring any major issues being discovered, the home has moved along quickly recently, though we are still a month or so behind schedule (thanks to a delayed start). With our last walk thru, all the wiring, plumbing, and network lines have been…

During this extended transition, I have continued to be active collecting and preparing for my various Star Wars games, to include Legion, Armada, and X-Wing. For Legion, beyond collecting a number of additional expansions, we have branched out into the Clone Wars expansion. Those forces are limited to just the core set thus far (the droids are rather annoying to assemble), but the interest level in the game itself has grown quite a bit. I have been keeping the 3d printer rather busy preparing scatter terrain and other decorations, so that we are ready once we again have a tabletop…

Our other primary campaign, and the longer running one of the two, is our ongoing Age of Ashes campaign. This is our bi-weekly Sunday game, though recent conflicts with the Scouting activities has caused some gaps. The group is currently level 10, located in the city of Kintargo, in the midst of Chapter 3. After having successfully repelled an invasion of the fishing town of Cypress Point, the group has following various leads for the Scarlet Triad to Kintargo. There they are seeking information on the organization, and their elusive leader, Laslunn. While continuing this investigation, the group came across…

As an update to one of our two Pathfinder campaigns, we continue to progress thru the Extinction Curse campaign path. Our schedule is still bi-weekly on Fridays, though sports activities have caused a skipped game here and there. The group is currently in the midst of Chapter 2, working their way thru the mysteries of Escadar. Following up on leads from the first chapter, they located and managed to explore a portion of the Moonstone Hall, while also working to clear the land around their sponsored showplace for their upcoming circus presentation. Most of the challenge has really been with…

As the days of our move continue to stretch on, but our goal comes closer, I have been entertaining the idea of starting additional gaming campaigns. I previously mentioned the potential for a Shadowrun based space/sci-fi campaign, which I still have interest in, but my current focus has instead been turning towards Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Specifically, the Cubicle 7 4th edition version, which from everything I have found and seen, is a return to the “good” versions of 1st and 2nd edition. Back in the day, I had many a fun adventure with friends in the grim setting of Warhammer,…
