Spent some more time tinkering with plugins on my OctoPrint environment for the 3d Printer, and ended up loading a new plugin or two. In particular, I added one called OctoLapse, which provides a much more consistent and stable timelapse for the printing. Basically it enforces a standard location for each snapshot, and allows a snapshot to be taken once for every layer. A small tweak to the overall process, but the result is pretty interesting. Once the video is processed, the result is what appears to be the constructed part “growing” out of the bed, rather than being printed. …

As I tinker with 3d printing, I have been coming up with a few miscellaneous designs. One of my more useful ones is a token holder for Zombicide: Black Plague, which I created a few days ago. Zombicide, like many games these days, has a lot of miscellaneous cardboard tokens. They are challenging to organize and store, and still be able to use quickly during a game. I wanted a way to keep them organized, while also storing easily inside the accessory box that comes with the game, since my main box is filled with foam to protect the painted…

Yesterday the time came for my long lasting best friend and pet Gwenivere to pass away. She was my first “on my own” dog, and a steady companion since she was just a puppy some 17 years ago. For a Labrador, she had a very long and filled life, she never gained weight that is typical of the breed, and was always eager to play. Spent some time working with the 3d Printer, and building some tools for hopefully helping with the miniature painting. In this case, it is a handle system, which should make it easier to hold unpainted figures, maneuver them around for better angles, and still be easy to swap out for bulk painting of several figures. In the pictures (which show a pre-painted Valeros) you can see the handle, to which a magnet is attached underneath. Unfortunately, we had a faulty start to Chapter 5, and had to cancel the scheduled game this weekend. Our player group, although very large at 10 players, was missing half of the group do to scheduling challenges. Admittedly this would have brought the group down to a “reasonable” size – a 5 player group is very workable. However the missing players made up the bulk of the meat shield side of the group, including the monk, barbarian, fighter, rogue, bard, and druid (and cat). As part of my recent work on the website, I have also overhauled the email functionality of the site. WordPress is deployed with a default php based email, which is functional, but (from my digging) unreliable. In my case, I suspect it has failed entirely, since I rarely receive emails from the website any longer. And I suspect this may impact either visitors commenting and/or registering on the site (again, I am being optimistic about the level of interest in my content). I have been attempting to work my way thru the confusing world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Basically, when you have a website, Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines use scripts, programs, and robots to scan the site and catalog the content. Based on their results, your site may or may not show up when someone searches for a related topic. Since my site tracks how many search engines refer browsers to the site, I have noticed that I am never visited by anyone other than thru using Google, and that is very low. Branching out my 3d Printing efforts into accessories for other games, and have settled on a design for an organization tray for Star Wars Armada ships. Basic design, you have the ship card, plus a number of tokens and dials, which of course tend to move around and get confused. This design hopefully will allow for things to be a bit more organized.
