Pathfinder – Rise of the Runelords

Our campaign this weekend stalled out a bit, when the group decided to focus on retrieving and rescuing the Rogue, who had hidden away during the last session.  Debating and discussing with the apparent villain (admittedly a known Succubus), the group had bargained themselves into a corner.  Several of the members, including the Paladin and Cleric, where adamant that a deal was a deal, and they should leave without further conflict.  Others like the Barbarian and Fighter, convinced that the Succubus had done something to the Rogue, voted for attacking.  Several others remained neutral, unsure of which side to join.

Note that during the entire encounter, the Succubus had a) not taken any aggressive action towards the group, treating them openly and politely, b) not lied to the group in any way (that they could detect with skill rolls), c) had taken no action other than to close the door to bedroom, after requesting the group respect her privacy within her home.  Meanwhile, the rogue had hidden herself in the bedroom (not sure if the Succubus was aware), and believe she was now locked in (though that was neither tested or confirmed).

Eventually, convinced they were right, the Barbarian and Fighter attacked rather than leaving peacefully.  In the ensuing fight, the servants of the Succubus were killed, and the Succubus herself was chased off (escaping thru ethereal travel).  In addition, the Barbarian ended up (accidentally) killing the Paladin, who was attempting to stop the fight (he considered the Paladin a foe, used a free attack, and ended up killing the Paladin due to extreme luck – or unluck – with overwhelming damage and a failed fortitude save).  Meanwhile, the Druid, in the form of a huge Air Elemental, had managed to get into the room holding the Rogue, at which point a defense was triggered, forcing the two of them to face a pair of Shining Children, summoned to protect the room.

Overall, the battles and fights were impressive, though by the end of the session the group had all but won each situation.  However, the emotional impact may be much more lasting.  Meanwhile, the Succubus caused all the chaos, by literally doing nothing except giving the group exactly what they asked for.
