A few sessions ago, in our bi-weekly Pathfinder campaign, the group happened to discover an artifact by the name of the Anathema Archive. A powerful source of magic, this ancient scroll contains the total Arcane knowledge of the setting. By concentrating and opening the scroll, any Arcane spell can be revealed and cast by the user, but no more than once per 24 hours. However, that ultimate knowledge brings along a risk of brain melting damage, as soon as it is opened, whether the spell is used or not. Since then, the group’s necromancer has held onto the device, waiting…

Continuing with my efforts from yesterday, 3d printing support posts for Star Wars: Armada terrain. I have been batch producing pieces for the support posts. A typical set of 5 posts takes about 3 hours to print, so thru the day I have finished a couple of batches and have a growing collection of pieces. Once another set is finished, I can move on to the next stage of assembly, and hopefully wrapping this project up.

Continuing my builds of Star Wars: Armada scenery, I am trying out an option to 3d print more pieces. Previously, I had a solution for the various cardboard templates (asteroids, gas clouds, space stations, and debris), and I have model solutions for each piece. What I was missing with the support rod for each, to actually hold the model up. From the design, this was intended to be 3mm clear plastic rods, similar to what is used for squadrons. However, those seem to be fairly hard to come by, at least at my local hobby shop. I can find them,…

Switched gears over the weekend, and started working on a new RPG campaign, to eventually use some sort of virtual tabletop. Initially, I had considered using Fantasy Grounds, but I am also experimenting now with d20Pro, mainly for its ability to do line of site and individual perspectives. In our gaming group, we have a desire to start a second game, but with the lack of a reliable location, an online version may be a workable option. However, if we are going to do so, I really want to take advantage of the advantages a VTT brings (namely hidden information).…

Continuing with my design for a space station model for Armada, I have what I believe to be a finished set. Might end up throwing some paint on it, but the setup already looks pretty good. Posted is a picture with an ISD Interdictor for scale and comparison. Note that the base of the station mimics the cardboard pieces, so that it is easy to remove as needed due to overlaps. For the stand, I ended up just using a small wooden peg, pre-cut to the proper length and works well with only a little bit of sanding. Likely will…

Continuing my efforts at 3d Armada terrain, I printed out a set of stands for the game, that match the existing published cardboard pieces. In these cases, I can mount a peg (possibly plastic, likely a thin wooden dowel), and then the plan is a set of lava rock stones. May or may not paint them after that, so that the rocks look more like space rocks (which feels redundant). But I have the lava rock and the bases, now I just have to find a practical solution for the pegs. Will add pictures once I get the final set…

It has been many years, but my model of The Wormwood finally had another use – as the centerpiece for our Cub Scout pirate-themed Crossover ceremony. This is a paper-craft model I built several years ago, in preparation for the Pathfinder campaign, Skull and Shackles. Unfortunately, the campaign died off after a bit into the second chapter, but for the first several game sessions it had a lot of activity (this was due to mechanics problems with ship to ship combat, the group was loving the campaign itself). At the time, since most of the campaign was to take place…

I have been working on trying to enhance the materials for Star Wars: Armada, and have been focused recently on the scenery pieces – the space station and asteroid markers. With the game, these are simple cardboard pieces, which work, but are not as nice as the full 3d ships and squadrons. There was a group or company that briefly provided 3d versions of the scenery, but as I understand it, due to copyright issues, they were forced to stop producing. I have also checked for 3d printing options, which may be workable, but will take a bit of time…
