For something completely off my usual topics, I wanted to show off a recent acquisition. The wife happened upon a website company which specializes in movie-related props, The Noble Collection. Perhaps this site was more well known then I give it credit, but for us, it was something new. The wife was very interested in the many Harry Potter items, in particular the Hedwig plush owl. As a surprise, I ordered it for her, partially to be nice, and also to test out the quality of the products with something not quite so expensive. However, in order to achieve free…

I have selected to use YouTube Live for our streaming efforts for our upcoming Shadowrun campaign, and have been busy working on the graphics and layout for the broadcast. Most everything looks decent, though I am still waiting for the final choice of icons for the different players. Right now, we are planning on starting our first session on July 6 or 7, and then our regular bi-weekly schedule on Sundays, starting with July 22. Should be live each time from 2 PM until 7 PM EST for each game session. If you are interested in stopping by, you can…

Had our first character generation session for the upcoming Shadowrun game, which was fairly successful. Everyone seemed to understand the basics of the system easily enough, though admittedly that may fall apart during the first game. Even though we are using a slightly more complicated version of character generation (Karma points), the use of the Chummer software worked well, and did all the math. The group is filling out nicely, and with a last minute addition, we have a full and plentiful group of 6 runners. There will likely be a bit of overlap between characters, which doesn’t hurt, especially…

In preparation for the upcoming Shadowrun campaign, I have been tackling a lot of the technical aspects of the proposed format. Since we are planning on playing remote with Roll20, my intent is to stream and record the sessions. This is mainly for my own challenge, trying to figure out the technical aspects, but also for player reference. In theory, a guest may be interested as well, so I will need to configure those links also.

Got a bit distracted this week, while the kids were off at Cub Scout day camp. We ended up being in charge of the pack flag, which has resulted in a number of crafty solutions. The flag is a very large one, much larger than prior years, so first we had to find a bigger pole, using a 8 foot baluster railing. Then the pole selected didn’t fit in the stand, so I used a chainsaw to carve it down a bit at the bottom. Finally, the kids noticed that we didn’t have any sort of decoration at the top,…

Its been a while since I posted the character sheets for the group, which have advanced to level 14 at this point. Given the large size of our group, and the inexperience of the players, it is impractical to have each player advance their character each time, and magical gear has a tendency to fall behind the expected curve in Pathfinder (especially if an unlimited magic shop isn’t constantly available). As such, I advance each character each time, based on the actions and tendencies of the player over the prior games, and at the start of each chapter, we re-balance…

For our secondary campaign, we have decided to give a try to a Shadowrun 5th edition campaign. The intent here is to run the campaign entirely online, using Roll20 or a similar virtual tabletop, which will allow not only a large pool of players, but flexibility on scheduling and not requiring a gaming location. Plus it indirectly helps one of the players to justify the acquisition of a new laptop.

We had our latest session of Pathfinder this weekend, with the group finally entering the pocket dimension of Runeforge, with recently upgraded level 14 characters. Their biggest challenge is adjusting to the changes in reality in the new location (some spells don’t work, or work differently), and my biggest challenge was actually filtering and editing the content creatively.
