Had the opportunity for the boys to both participate in a flag pole dedication for our local church sponsor. A family had donated the installation of the flag poles, as a memorial, and the church asked for the Boy Scouts to help with the ceremony. Fairly straightforward, this is something the Boy Scouts do on a regular basis (raising and lowering the flag), but it was nice to be able to help out the sponsor with their request. And it was nice to see both of the boys active in the event.

A Happy Anniversary to my wife, who opted to marry me many moons ago (264 moons ago to be precise, or 22 years). Although I haven’t always made a bit deal about it every year, it makes me happy that she said yes. This year, I decided to go artsy, and wrapped her presents in paper that looks like resin ink artwork. It goes with her general crafty-ness. Thank you for all the fun so far, and for many more years to come.

We continue the conclusion of the Pathfinder campaign this weekend, in one of the few remaining sessions. At the end of the last one, the group had encountered their first Rune Giant, and interacted with an image of Karzoug – now fully aware of the groups activities and location. We will see how long the group can hold out, and what tactics they come up with. At this stage, we are still eyeing finishing the campaign before the end of the year, though of course that will depend on how quickly we move thru the content. At a minimum, I…

I have had a few days now to get used to the new WordPress version, within which the biggest change is a the new “block editor” formatting for posts. I am old-school – I started working on websites when you wrote out the text long hand in html code – so the changes feel a bit foreign. It was a change (for the better) when gui-based interfaces were developed, and in truth, this block format is an improvement as well. However, it does feel like there is more limitations (or perhaps I just haven’t learned how to do things yet). …

Continuing my efforts with Elite: Dangerous (it has been distracting me a lot recently), here is a view from the rings of Frey 4, in the Frey system. This particular location is a resource extraction site, popular with pirates (and thus good for combat), but it is also rather peaceful when you just stop and enjoy the view. The haze is due to the star casting a shadow across the planet and rings.

Over this last weekend, we bid farewell to our long-time Cub Scout den, as each of the boys crossed over to the Boy Scouts (now the Scouts of America). We have led this den with these boys for over 4 years, and had a great number of activities with each. Over the years, they have each earned a number of achievements, awards and ranks – the most notable being their Arrow of Light. Traditionally, this award is created and built by the Den Leaders, and we duplicated our prior den’s award with a few enhancements. Each award is a simple…

After several months, it appears that WordPress 5 is finally rolling out on my hosting provider – this posting was written in the new block format of the tools. I was rather nervous about the upgrade, upgrades typically bring along broken links, lost images, and other issues. It also has a tendency to take quite a while, meaning the site is offline. This time however, it (so far) has gone very well and very smoothly. The update was all of 2 minutes, and so far nothing appears to be broken. I had proactively taken a backup of the prior site,…

I decided it was time for a better brush holder, to store my painting brushes, as part of my organization efforts with my paints. 20 hours later, and a 3d Printed brush stand is completed. Unfortunately, now I see I have several slots left open, which of course makes me want to fill them, even though I rarely ever use more than two or three during any project. This does replace my prior organizer, which was the bottom half of a failed Star Wars turbo-laser turret. That piece worked well – the infile of the print was decently spaced, but…
