• Continuing my X-Wing collection, with the last of the First Edition/Second Edition combo packs – ships that come with materials for both editions of the game. This one is the TIE Reaper, appearing in Star Wars Rebels, and featuring Director Krennic as a pilot option. Since I mainly fly Rebel, this won’t serve me much, but my son who favors Imperials will likely enjoy it. Mainly, I am just a completest, and find it hard to resist Rebel or Imperial ships. Given the options, not sure how much play time it will end up seeing, but it provides more options…

  • Going to be more than a few new miniature sets, thanks to the recent holidays. First up, we have a squad of Fleet Troopers, reinforcements for the Rebels (who desperately need more help). As usual, the models are detailed, but easy to assemble. Compared to my prior experience with Games Workshop, they might not be as customizable as possible, but they certainly assemble much faster, and look just as good. And as a side benefit, you don’t need to separate all the pieces from the mold sprue. This particular set will likely be a while before I can paint them…

  • Hopefully, you had a good holiday, of whatever form you celebrate, or at least are looking forward to a bright New Years. For me and the family, Christmas was enjoyable, most everyone seems to have received everything they wished for. Unfortunately, the big intended present for myself rather unexpectedly failed to show an appearance. Or more specifically, the box showed up, but it had apparently been substituted for an “exercise disk” at the Amazon shipping center. Bit of a disappointment when the box was opened, though I am sure someone somewhere had a very nice holiday. Blessing in disguise though…

  • For the holiday season this year, the wife decided to do bit more cooking this year, beyond the traditional cookies. Last week, we canned up home made pickles, today’s challenge was home-made beer mustard. Hopefully the flavors will mellow a bit, fresh and still hot the horseradish was a bit over powering. But after a few weeks canned and resting it will likely be much better. Of course, we have 7 jars now for friends and family, so it will be around for quite some time. Assuming it turns out decent, I will share the recipe post-holidays.

  • With our current Pathfinder game reaching high level characters (currently 17, approaching 18), it is becoming a much more common occurrence for 15 or more dice to be rolled at once for various spells and effects. As a result, several of the players have gathered large piles of dice to make the rolling a bit faster. During the last game however, this lead to a rather frequent occurrence of dice being dropped and scattered on the floor, to rattle off to parts unknown. Enter a dice organizer, a simple design I found on Thingiverse (thanks to TimTimTimTimTim), which holds d6…

  • We continued the Pathfinder campaign conclusion, with the second part of the assault on Karzoug’s citadel.  The group managed to finish off their first encounter with a full power Rune Giant, and then broke into the throne room, where they faced one of Karzoug’s generals.  However, the battle was relatively quick, thanks to a well timed Prismatic Spray spell, and some well aimed vorpal swords.  After only a few rounds, the general’s head was removed, the Rune Giant faced a similar fate, and another of the Cloud Giants was whisked away to another plane.  The rest of the foes fell…

  • Had the opportunity for the boys to both participate in a flag pole dedication for our local church sponsor.  A family had donated the installation of the flag poles, as a memorial, and the church asked for the Boy Scouts to help with the ceremony.  Fairly straightforward, this is something the Boy Scouts do on a regular basis (raising and lowering the flag), but it was nice to be able to help out the sponsor with their request.  And it was nice to see both of the boys active in the event.

  • A Happy Anniversary to my wife, who opted to marry me many moons ago (264 moons ago to be precise, or 22 years).  Although I haven’t always made a bit deal about it every year, it makes me happy that she said yes. This year, I decided to go artsy, and wrapped her presents in paper that looks like resin ink artwork.  It goes with her general crafty-ness. Thank you for all the fun so far, and for many more years to come.
