As part of our upcoming Age of Ashes campaign, we are going to try to add some virtual tabletop options, specifically the Fantasy Grounds tool. For those players with a laptop available, I will be asking them to install the client version, to be able to (hopefully) connect reliably to a GM session on my own computer. In concept, this will allow for some automation of the character actions, combat, etc, as well as the option for hidden messages and updates (previously we would text). It should also help with the recordings, since I can link OBS to capture specific…

The books are in hand, the characters are (mostly) completed, and we are just about ready to launch our 3rd major campaign with the Age of Ashes, using the new Pathfinder version 2. This Sunday will be our first game, though it will likely be a short session since we still have a couple of players that need their characters. Meanwhile, 7 of the 10 managed to create their personas during the recent GenCon, giving the group a custom collection of a Druid, Wizard, Cleric, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, and a Champion. With the remaining three, I expect at least one…

Another Gencon is done, and our group managed to survive without casualties. Only major challenge was the loss of my credit card after the first night, which fortunately was only missing, and not stolen. Caused a bit of a disruption, but we were able to adapt. Unfortunately, what I was interested in sold rather quickly. Of course, the big draw was Pathfinder second edition, and there was far more than they could sell for the weekend. However, Shadowrun (which was admittedly a pre-release) sold out by Friday morning, and I missed my chance. Similarly, the Outer Rim campaign for Star…

From the same collection by Hugolours on Thingiverse, we have a small villager house. For now, I have the one, but I am planning to expand to a few additional pieces, to serve as a farm house, or perhaps small village in the future. Definitely could use a bit of paint and some more cleanup on the edges, but the model is very nice. Additional options include more floors, a balcony, and optional ruined sections for damage or aging. Beyond the RPG games, these should also be useful in wargaming or other settings – though they don’t really match the…

Continuing on with my scatter terrain theme, I printed recently a wooden tower or tree stand, part of the collection by Hugolours on Thingiverse. If found this during our Kingmaker campaign, after the group attacked bandits who were equipped with tree stands for defense, and didn’t have any models. The collection is actually a fairly large assortment of modular pieces, that can be mixed and matched to form a castle wall, a small village, or various other pieces. I have slowly been working on a small collection, though have also been having printer challenges (it has developed a notable shift…

Been working with the 3d printer and creating some scatter terrain for the upcoming campaign (and general RPGs). One thing I have always been lacking is a set of camp pieces to represent the group whenever they are ambushed or attacked (or attack someone else) at night. To this end, I located a set of terrain by Ecaroth on Thingiverse, which fulfills my needs. Obviously they can use a bit of paint, and the printing isn’t the highest quality, but they will certain serve the needs intended. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2653284 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2653263 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2652986 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2653249 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2652977

This last Sunday, we wrapped up Chapter 1 of the Kingmaker campaign, and brought to close the storyline. With our group, it was rather successful as a story, although we glossed over a bit of the ending to make it to the final battle – basically the group jumped ahead to the assault on the Stag Lord’s fort.

Gencon 2019 convention is starting tomorrow, and for the first time, my son and I are attending the entire 4 day event. In previous years, we have gone on the Sunday Family Day, but last year there was simply no way to see and experience everything. With some planning since December, we decided to do the full experience, pre-purchasing badges, tickets, and parking We are set for several events and games, and a few seminars, along with plenty of time in the vendor hall playing demos. More importantly, most of our regular gaming group is attending at least part of…
