• Switched gears over the weekend, and started working on a new RPG campaign, to eventually use some sort of virtual tabletop.  Initially, I had considered using Fantasy Grounds, but I am also experimenting now with d20Pro, mainly for its ability to do line of site and individual perspectives.  In our gaming group, we have a desire to start a second game, but with the lack of a reliable location, an online version may be a workable option.  However, if we are going to do so, I really want to take advantage of the advantages a VTT brings (namely hidden information).…

  • Continuing with my design for a space station model for Armada, I have what I believe to be a finished set.  Might end up throwing some paint on it, but the setup already looks pretty good.  Posted is a picture with an ISD Interdictor for scale and comparison.  Note that the base of the station mimics the cardboard pieces, so that it is easy to remove as needed due to overlaps.  For the stand, I ended up just using a small wooden peg, pre-cut to the proper length and works well with only a little bit of sanding.  Likely will…

  • Continuing my efforts at 3d Armada terrain, I printed out a set of stands for the game, that match the existing published cardboard pieces.  In these cases, I can mount a peg (possibly plastic, likely a thin wooden dowel), and then the plan is a set of lava rock stones.  May or may not paint them after that, so that the rocks look more like space rocks (which feels redundant).  But I have the lava rock and the bases, now I just have to find a practical solution for the pegs.  Will add pictures once I get the final set…

  • It has been many years, but my model of The Wormwood finally had another use – as the centerpiece for our Cub Scout pirate-themed Crossover ceremony.  This is a paper-craft model I built several years ago, in preparation for the Pathfinder campaign, Skull and Shackles.  Unfortunately, the campaign died off after a bit into the second chapter, but for the first several game sessions it had a lot of activity (this was due to mechanics problems with ship to ship combat, the group was loving the campaign itself). At the time, since most of the campaign was to take place…

  • I have been working on trying to enhance the materials for Star Wars: Armada, and have been focused recently on the scenery pieces – the space station and asteroid markers.  With the game, these are simple cardboard pieces, which work, but are not as nice as the full 3d ships and squadrons.  There was a group or company that briefly provided 3d versions of the scenery, but as I understand it, due to copyright issues, they were forced to stop producing.  I have also checked for 3d printing options, which may be workable, but will take a bit of time…

  • Our group continued the fight against the Scribbler, the chief bad guy of the first part of Chapter 5, who turned out not to be much of a threat – at least not against the overly large player group that we have.  Coming back to the battle fresh, the players rather rapidly finished him off, despite an effort to summon demons for assistance (which were also destroyed easily).  The various layered abilities of the group, combined with some creativity from the players, and their strength becomes rather overwhelming.

  • On Friday, the site software notified me of an upgrade to WordPress, moving to 4.9.6, which as usual I installed.  As expected, the install was quick and painless, rarely ever any issues.  However, with the new update, there is now a new focus on Privacy Policies, no doubt a result of all of the recent events in the news regarding privacy and information gathering. Although this site is entirely informational, and relatively low volume, I do collect some data for the basic operation of the site, and to screen spam and similar activity.  As such (and being in a computer…

  • As I mentioned before, for our Rise of the Runelords Pathfinder game, we are reaching a point in the campaign where the relative “sin” or “virtue” level of each character is becoming relevant.  Basically, for the prior game, as they have shown one tendency or another, they have earned a bonus or penalty during the upcoming sessions, based on their further adventures into Runeforge.  For example, a character who has been Greedy would experience a bonus in areas associated with Karzoug, the Runelord of Greed, while those who have shown Generosity would experience a penalty.
