• Football season is upon us, and that means my younger son is hard at practice with training for his now 5th grade team.  One of the volunteer duties of the parents is that one person is asked/volunteers to film all of the games, for review by the coaches and players.  Not too hard, but something that one of the other dads typically have done in the past.  This year, I was volunteered to do so.

  • Over the years, I have had more than a few occasions to smell the nearby presence of a skunk, though fortunately never have we had a direct confrontation.  This despite curious dogs, and more than a few known critters in our neighborhood. Unfortunately, last night around 2 AM, our dog managed to break that streak, and after running from the backyard, we discovered a rather pungent odor.  It was enough to permeate the house, and wake up the wife, and the dog was none too happy as well. What followed was some rather frantic google-searching, followed by a series of…

  • For something completely different from my usual gaming related posts, let me shift gears to OneDrive cloud storage.  I have for several years now subscribed to Office365 as a family plan, which not only allows me to use Office software on several computers, but also allows me a different OneDrive account with 1 TB of storage for each family member.  If anything, this has always been a bit of overkill for most of the family – my kids are simply too young to really generate any data other than video game save files, and my wife really doesn’t create much…

  • As a reminder for our upcoming schedule, we will not be continuing our regularly scheduled Roll20 version of Shadowrun this weekend, due to the GenCon convention in Indianapolis.  A number of our players, including myself, will be attending for Family Day on Sunday, to see the sites and take a look at the latest in new gaming developments.

  • In our latest session, the group wrapped up the Shimmering Veils of Pride, deep in the Runeforge.  By the end of the session, they had solved several challenges, including a detailed process to create their Dominating weapons, and had clues as to how to eventually escape Runeforge.  In the process, they first had to deal with an invulnerable giant peacock, and a set of 6 clones spell casters, all in the mirrored cathedral. All of that probably sounds a lot crazier than it actually was.  Following the events of the last session, where the group fought their own evil mirror…

  • Our next session of Pathfinder is this weekend, with the group continuing into the Veils of Pride, within Runeforge.  Having defeated their images previously, they now need to solve the rest of the traps and encounters, and then hopefully sort out how to craft the Dominating weapons they will need to eventually face Karzoug. In theory, we may be able to wrap up Chapter 5 with this session, though more likely it will be at least two more games before we move on to the final chapters.

  • I have been rather relaxed recently, and enjoyed the last two weeks of vacation from work.  Initially, this time was set aside to go to summer camp with my sons, one session for the first week, and a second session with both during the second week.  Due to various reasons, the second week was cancelled, so we used the opportunity for relaxing around the home along with a short trip to Columbus.  However, all good things come to an end, and yesterday I had to return to work. And I immediately realized why I had needed a vacation – it…

  • So we kicked off our Shadowrun campaign yesterday, and unfortunately, it did not go quite as smoothly as I had hoped.  In my mind, I envisioned a smooth experience, quick responsiveness, solid audio, and overall a very fun game.  What we actually had was technical difficulties, slow responsiveness, mediocre audio, and a fairly frustrating scenario.  Although we were able to touch on the basics of the game, and even start a simple scenario, the going was pretty rough overall.  Although the characters were completed, I didn’t have a final copy of each, so I didn’t have a reference point to…
