• Going to do a bit of experimentation tonight, and record the room where we normally game with the camera. Thus far, I have been leaving the camera on automatic mode, with regards to pretty much everything. This is mainly due to me simply not understanding a lot of the settings, and also the cameras being rather low end, and not having a lot of the more advanced features. However, the cameras I use do have some white balance adjustments, and after watching several videos, I am hoping they might provide some improvements in color. Specifically, adjusting to the “fluorescent lighting”…

  • Alternating between minimal time, and way too much time waiting this week, with a work-related Disaster Recovery drill. For the company that I work a “real” job for, we perform an annual Disaster Recovery exercise. Basically, we pretend that one of the data centers has been destroyed and no longer available, and attempt to restore all the services at a backup location. Generally, this is a pretty straightforward effort on my part – we contract with a team that does most of the coordination and I just need to ferry updates to and from the client. This time however we…

  • Managed to stay ahead of schedule, and finish up the latest Age of Ashes episode over the weekend – it is uploading now to be published on Friday. So far, I seem to be able to edit and finalize each video in just about a week, though it does require a fair bit of time each day. I would allow for an earlier release schedule, but that would then lock me into a much tighter time frame – this way I have a few extra days just in case of conflicts. I still have some means to streamline my process,…

  • Thanks to the templates I have created over the last few episodes, my editing this week is actually ahead of schedule. Having said that, I am of course going to lose ground this weekend again, partially since I simply said I was ahead, and partly due to pre-planned events. In particular, we have a busy weekend of kids activities, with football games and marching band shows. We are also selling popcorn for the Scouts, and trying to fit in several other options on Saturday. Going to be a long weekend.

  • Working on a revised idea for equipment management in the Pathfinder campaign, which would be applicable to just about any RPG. Not exactly ready to fully roll it out yet – that will likely wait for our next gaming session, but I have been collecting various materials. In theory, this should help our large group not only with managing their particular pieces of gear, but also with understanding and tracking all the new traits and abilities of the gear.

  • It has been many years since we have routinely played Warcraft, but the recent launch of Warcraft Classic managed to call us back. The “new” version is from the 2004 era – no heirloom gear for fast leveling, minimal quality of life improvements, and relatively high death rate. But it is fun, at least for now. Even better, the kids are now at the age to be able to play and hopefully appreciate it – we stopped playing after they got old enough that free time was too limited. Now we can play as a family, with a pre-made group…

  • Working on the editing of the next episode of Age of Ashes, and realizing that some of my adjusted camera angles are a bit too adusted. I was trying to focus more on the group, and try to avoid the backs of the other half of the players. Unfortunately, it ended up with an overly high angle, and didnt really avoid the block. Plus, to adjust for the many players, I ended up with a bit too much background. Not sure what the solution is, I will be trying a different option next time. Basically, we are trying to squeeze…

  • As we continue our Pathfinder Age of Ashes campaign, the group is slowly collecting and painting their miniatures for their characters. One part that is particularly interesting to me is that everyone is very much vested in not only have a representative figure, but in hand painting it themselves. To that end, we have custom ordered figures, and others that are unable to be used until the painting is fully finished. The most recent is Goruza, the group’s Cleric of Sarenrae, and a Half-Orc. As usual, the figure is hand painted by the player, which turned out very nice –…
