It was painful, due to several processing problems, but the latest session of the Age of Ashes campaign is finally finished and now waiting for Friday. I am still not sure, but there was or is some error in the files, that caused a freeze whenever I was rendering, and an unusually long render time. I suspect it is a result of the recent upgrade of Premiere Pro to v2020, which converted my template, but I don’t know enough about the options to rule out my own mistakes. In preparation for my next round, I am going to likely change…

While I continue to struggle with trying to render and publish the latest Age of Ashes session, its time for me to get working on the trophy for our upcoming Magic: The Gathering tournament. This Saturday, from 2 PM to 5 PM, we will be hosting our 3rd annual Thanksgiving Tournament, though the date this time has shifted to the weekend (instead of the Wednesday before). As before, I am preparing the first place trophy, a 3d printed model that I am hand-painting. So far, most of the paint is applied, but after it drys overnight I need to shine…

Some improvements, leading to new challenges. After my prior issues, I was able to fully edit down the video content from the latest Age of Ashes campaign. Unfortunately, now my challenge is at the rendering stage – for some reason Premiere is choking on the output finalizing of the video. Ultimately, the software functions – although it is still time consuming – but Adobe is locking up at about 95% process, and failing. I have considered maybe I am just impatient – thus far no success. My attempt now is focused on breaking the content into several smaller pieces, and…

Lesson learned – when adapting to a new audio system and settings, make sure that your video file settings are consistent with the audio. For the last several days, I have been attempting to edit the latest gaming session – something that up until recently was not really that bad. However, this time after the first major editing pass, the computer ended up choking badly on the files – just starting a scrub would take several minutes, and then lag badly, and when I stopped, the system would chug for several more minutes before quieting down. Obviously something was different,…

As a side project, my son asked me to 3d print him a swan, in gold. Apparently, it is a joke between him and his friends. Not exactly sure what is funny about a golden swan, but ask, and delivered. The print was a bit of a challenge – the neck did not want to stay attached, especially with the overhang. Ended up having to add some custom support, and then hold my breath when it got close to the end. First two prints sadly did not survive, but the third was golden (hehe).

Slowly we are filling out the rest of the group’s painted miniatures, as the various players complete their painting. For this last game, Legolas was presented, in all his bronze glory. This figure was painted by Craig, who did a very good job, especially since he has not painted very many figures before, and this was done entirely on his own. The painting skills of the group continue to impress me, with their attention to detail and creativity, which adds a lot to the game. It is always refreshing to see the players be that vested in the game and…

Currently in development, I am looking into the option of running a second major campaign to begin in January or February with the Extinction Curse adventure path, to be recorded and broadcast similar to our Age of Ashes campaign. Right now, I am teaching a whole new cast the basics of the game with a shorter adventure, while I continue to streamline my editing workflow. If all goes well, I should be able to announce more in late December, as I start to firm up the various details. Format would be very similar to our Age of Ashes campaign, but…

Managed to hold our regularly scheduled game yesterday, and successfully capture the video and audio for the session. This is the first session with the new audio equipment, so I am hopefully the quality will be improved. Now I need to filter, restructure, and edit the footage into the normal format, which will likely take at least a few days. In particular, this did add some complication to my current template, since I now have directional audio. That means I had to change the audio source for each of the various camera angles and compositions – hopefully those should all…
