Sadly, thanks to ongoing Covid concerns, Gencon has announced the cancellation of the 2020 convention. Although this no longer directly impacts our local gaming group (we had previously cancelled), I am sure this is disappointing for many who had still held out hope. No doubt it will be a major impact to the Indianapolis tourist economy as well. Hopefully it will all be recovered with the doubtless increased volume next year (assuming this is all done by then).

As part of our house-swapping efforts, my time has become very limited. This, along with the very low views on any of the content, has convinced me that it is a rather large amount of work for a very small benefit. As such, as the current YouTube posting come to an end, I am going to end recording, editing and publishing further Age of Ashes sessions. At this point, I do not expect any change to the actual gaming schedule itself, though that has not been ruled out thus far either. Tentatively December, or early into the next year, I…

So after a long waiting and preparation period, we are finally moving forward with plans to relocate to a new home. For this round, we are opting to build, in a location admittedly only a few blocks away from our current location – but it will cause a lot of disruption over the next 6 months. We have started the initial paperwork, and have realtor and banking discussions happening this week, along with starting to purge existing household materials and store away what can be. It will be a very busy but exciting period. As a result, I will be…

As commented before, I have been working on converting to using PrusaSlicer for my 3d printing and slicing. This has the advantage of a stock, supported configuration for the i3MK3s. However, it has required quite a bit of adjustments to the configuration, in order to run “well”. I continue to have challenges with supports, especially on small models. My test case has been HeroForge miniatures, which print well, but have a lot of overhangs. As a result, support is critical and plentiful, using the automatic generation. I have made some improvements – the last model I printed I was able…

Episode 5 of the 2nd Chapter (Cult of Cinders) of our Age of Ashes campaign is being released now on YouTube. If you are a supporter on Patreon, you can view the content up to two weeks early. Otherwise, the content will be released in pieces over the next couple of weeks. This particular session I labeled as an Archaeological Distraction, since a large portion was about the group’s interaction with a Taldan treasure hunter name Gerhardt Pendergrast. This was a useful distraction from the repetitive nature of the Dragon Pillars, which fortunately are coming to an end with the…

Experimenting a bit with my 3d printing slicer program, and rapidly becoming a convert to the PrusaSlicer option. Not only is it fully supported and the “official” answer for my i3 MK3s Prusa printer, but it has some advances in the recent version that my prior option (Simplify3D) simply doesn’t have. In particular, the latest edition advertises variable layer height, automatically calculated for models. This potentially can save a significant amount of time off of otherwise basic models, while still keeping the overall quality. Another side benefit is that it ties in very easily with my Octoprint configuration, allowing me…

With regret, we ended up cancelling our group plans for Gencon 2020 this year, thanks to ongoing concerns over Covid. Although the state of Indiana and the Gencon organization has not officially cancelled the event, we felt it was prudent to make alternate plans. Best case projects are aiming for a mid-May “restart” to various regions – but even then the full return to normal could easily take several months. Best case, we would be in the convention with thousands of others, all potentially causing more infection vectors. Worse case, the convention would be cancelled for everyone regardless. Instead, this…

With the current double-campaign for Pathfinder, my plate is pretty full on GM’ing storylines. However, I still have a desire to play, and have an upcoming option with a recent acquaintance and a planned Starfinder campaign. I have never played Starfinder before, but I am always up for learning. So far from my basic research, it feels like a blend of Pathfinder 1st edition and 2nd edition, but of course set in a science fiction environment. I am curious to see how well the various concepts hold up – historically I have not been a fan of hit points vs…
