Scheduled a final technology test, utilizing our Extinction Curse campaign, for this coming Sunday, 2 PM to 7 PM EST. This is an unlisted YouTube live stream, not looking for a larger audience, but I am eager to hear about any feedback both pro and con with the configuration. My bigger concern is really at the streaming level – can my systems provide enough horsepower to handle the load acceptably. Much of the graphics will be different and modified, but the streaming itself will be similar. If you have the chance and interest, stop by and drop in a comment.…

One of the requirements of our upcoming campaign is for all characters to be represented by an accurate figure, which has been painted. For several of our players, that is a stretch, and not what they are comfortable with. However, art supplies and options being what they are, even inexperienced persons can paint remarkably well. During our last painting session, my son was encouraged to paint Aznak, his Kobold Ranger. This is only his second figure he has ever printed, and he did most of it in Citadel Contrast Paints. He even opted for a bit of dark scale highlight,…

Part of my gaming room configuration has been the design, building, and deployment of a digital table and table space for the group. For this reason, we purchased an oversized table (approximately 10 foot), to fit our overly large group. Eventually, this will be covered by an overlay, providing space for the players books, papers, and dice, while also doubling as a 3×6 field for our Legion and Armada games. In the center of this, I had planned to build a wooden box to hold a large screen TV, for use with whichever virtual tabletop of choice we had at…

During our recent group painting session, I tackled a few of the resin giant rat figures I had printed, in preparation for use during one of our various games. These had been in my box for several weeks, but I figured it was a good time to try the results of some more Contrast Paints from Citadel. And in truth, the skeletons which I had planned on painting had not yet been primed, so they were my next best option. Overall, very happy with the results. These literally only required about 10 minutes of painting – two colors for the…

Opting to try another technology test and fully stream out Extinction Curse campaign. Using the Pathfinder 2e rules, this is a campaign that we have been running for a while – the group is midway thru Chapter 3. The goal here is really to focus on the technology, and make sure it all works – decent quality, solid sound, steady streaming. This will be a non-interactive stream – chat will be enabled, but I am fairly sure I wont be watching it. I encourage anyone interested to connect and check it out – leave me a comment on the stream…

Part of the challenge I have given all of the players for our upcoming campaign is to provide a painted, character appropriate miniature, and to consider their particular relationship to the initiator NPC of the campaign, Professor Petros Lorrimor. For this background, they can simply know their story, or optionally, provide a written background. I have been rather curious not only to see all the characters, but to understand how their particular hero fits into the world – a GM of the story can only be so creative. For those willing, I am going to post their backgrounds for public…

With my professional life in IT support, I have a desire to test and verify all technology, especially when it is new – or at least a new process. To that end, I am planning on scheduling a pre-campaign live stream to test the configuration, tools, and options. Consider it a Session 0 for the campaign, but it is also a decent time for any (albeit small) audience to interact and provide feedback. I doubt there will be any real content, except for audio testing and such. I ran a similar test previously, but the connection was set for Twitch…

After many weeks of planning, we finally held our big summer Twilight Imperium game session – a two day boardgame bonanza. Twilight Imperium (TI4) is something I have had on my shelf for a couple of years, but had only had the opportunity to play once, and then only partially. I had always wanted to get a group together to play a full game, with enough time to finish the game entirely. However, it is a game that is rumored to take all day, or multiple days. With the house, and a dedicated game space, the planets had finally aligned…
