In our Extinction Curse campaign, we are just about to wrap up Chapter 3, with the group assaulting the Xulgaths (troglodytes) at the 3rd Aeon Tower in the Swardlands. The Xulgaths have consolidated and reinforced, and their leader was hiding out in the tower, waiting for the group that have harassed their forces over the last few weeks. I have opted to not continue streaming this particular campaign, mainly due to the additional technical challenge involved with local and remote Discord players. It adds a lot of additional complexity to the layout, and makes it that much more challenging for…

Part of our prop collection, this book is described in the adventure as “a translation into Common of the unholy book of Zon-Kuthon”, diety of Envy, Pain, Darkness, and Loss. From some basic digging, it supposedly contains all of the worst tortures and torments of the diety, and is covered in what appears to be tanned skin, perhaps human, and a dark doorway symbol. This is one that we took a bit of a shortcut, and the majority of the content is actually just a published book on medieval torture methods, with a few pages here and there torn out.…

Following on my acquisition of the Twilight Imperium mat, I opted to add a new Star Wars: Armada mat, using the same grippiness. This will hopefully minimize the shifting of pieces during the game, and provides an alternative graphic. The mat was purchased thru Break From Reality Games in Seattle, and (unlike the prior one) arrived quickly in the mail. My intent is obviously for Armada (despite their recent announcements, I still really like the game), but I am also planning on using it for X-Wing (when we play again) and likely for Legion. The space graphic may not be…

Extending my ongoing Horror theme, I was doing some model searches recently, and came upon a newly posted Patreon filled with the Cthulhu mythos. Of course, everyone needs a model of the great Cthulhu itself, so I quickly subscribed and collected the models. Now that I have finished the tiles for my Catan board, I am temporarily sidelining the tiles to print this model, in as large of a size as the resin printer can handle (approximately 125% scale). As a multi-part model, once assembled, I am expecting about 175mm in height, or just under 7 inches. Which as a…

In preparation for our Carrion Crown campaign, my prop-master (the wife) was tasked with coming up with a variety of game aids and props for the story. Things that would impart the setting, be tactile, and perhaps provide further background and clues. The entire group was very impressed with the results. One of our more simple designs is the pages of the journal of Professor Petros Lorrimor. As an active adventurer, investigator, and collector of occult knowledge, the Professor’s journal itself would be a trove of detailed information and notes. However, before his untimely death, he tore out a number…

Historically, nursery rhymes have always been a bit creepy – there are plenty of times where fairly horrible events eventually became children’s songs, echoed thru the generations. The Carrion Crown campaign takes advantage of this, and uses a similar pattern to provide clues and context to the historical events of the story. Long before, there was a catastrophic fire at the Harrowstone Prison, which claimed the lives of the prison guards, the warden, and most of the prisoners. The cause of the fire was unknown, but at the time, several prolific prisoners were amongst the victims, murders and criminals who…

In preparation for our Carrion Crown campaign, my prop-master (the wife) was tasked with coming up with a variety of game aids and props for the story. Things that would impart the setting, be tactile, and perhaps provide further background and clues. The entire group was very impressed with the results. The simplest of these is the Haunt Siphon – in the story it is described as a small device made of glass, filled with a glowing gas. The magic item is used to capture and absorb spiritual and necromantic energy, store it, and then discharge it like a grenade…

Our next session of the Carrion Crown campaign is set for this weekend, to be streamed live again. Hopefully you can join us for the fun and story, and experience the challenges faced by the group. In the last session, the group attended the funeral of Professor Petro Lorrimor, a long time acquaintance, mentor, and father figure (and a brother) to all of the group. His influence was extensive, and his recent death not only unexpected, but suspicious. While filtering thru a number of materials left behind in his will, the group decided that their best course of action was…
