With the recent Labor Day holiday in the US, I had the chance to revisit a favorite game with my son and play some more Armada. The next in our line of props for our Carrion Crown campaign is the book entitled Serving Your Hunger – intended as a religious book and reference for the cult of Urgathoa. Functionally, a diety of cannibals, this was the one which the prop master likely spent the most effort to flesh out. The book itself is described as bound with metal plates – in our case we did thick card stock, colored to resemble rusty metal. Another session upcoming, another live stream. As usual, set for Sunday, as the group begins their exploration of the Harrowstone Prison in earnest. Previously, they found indications of the numerous criminals that were kept in the building, and some of the events that lead up to the fatal fire. This also introduced a few additional mysteries – what caused the fire, why was the warden’s wife involved, and which of the criminals may have survived? One challenge I keep seem to be having is the overall game balance of Pathfinder, especially with 2nd edition. I am not sure if my experience is not the norm, or if this is common, but it seems the like the Adventure Path difficulty scale dramatically increases near Chapter 3 or 4. In first edition, this was a problem as well, but only for some of the campaigns – Rise of the Runelords did not have an issue (for our group), but Carrion Crown did (for our first edition group years ago). The next of the collection left behind by Professor Lorrimor is a book entitled On Verified Madness, a tome bound and published by a Theophilus Wenn, In the adventure, it is described as a “jet-black book that is a treatise on abberations and other entities found on Golarion that possess remote ties to the Dark Tapestry, the name given to the dark places between the stars in the night sky”. In our Extinction Curse campaign, we are just about to wrap up Chapter 3, with the group assaulting the Xulgaths (troglodytes) at the 3rd Aeon Tower in the Swardlands. The Xulgaths have consolidated and reinforced, and their leader was hiding out in the tower, waiting for the group that have harassed their forces over the last few weeks. I have opted to not continue streaming this particular campaign, mainly due to the additional technical challenge involved with local and remote Discord players. Part of our prop collection, this book is described in the adventure as “a translation into Common of the unholy book of Zon-Kuthon”, diety of Envy, Pain, Darkness, and Loss. From some basic digging, it supposedly contains all of the worst tortures and torments of the diety, and is covered in what appears to be tanned skin, perhaps human, and a dark doorway symbol. This is one that we took a bit of a shortcut, and the majority of the content is actually just a published book on medieval torture methods, with a few pages here and there torn out.…

Following on my acquisition of the Twilight Imperium mat, I opted to add a new Star Wars: Armada mat, using the same grippiness. This will hopefully minimize the shifting of pieces during the game, and provides an alternative graphic. The mat was purchased thru Break From Reality Games in Seattle, and (unlike the prior one) arrived quickly in the mail.
