• Another improvement I am hoping to make, as a result of my gaming video effort, is potentially a shift in the placement of each player.  Naturally, everyone has a difference voice volume.  However, this makes it troublesome on the video audio, since some players are close to the microphone and loud, and others are far away and talk softly. This weeks game, I am going to try moving some of the players around, and hopefully minimize the effect.  In particular, our Cleric player is very quiet, and likes to sit at the far end of the table – she will…

  • While I have been editing the latest game session video, I noticed that the number of quests and missions the group is being asked to tackle is starting to grow quite a bit, and there is some confusion starting to creep in.  In addition, I am having my own difficulties managing and remembering all the details, especially when it comes to promised rewards and gains. As such, I decided it was time for another “enhancement” to the game, a relatively simple idea, in which I document and hand out the quests similar to bounty posters or such.  This is something…

  • An unfortunate side effect of the effort to record our gaming sessions is the lengthy amount of time required for the editing of the video.  Initially, I was posting the videos in nearly raw format, which means the 5 hour session was posted as a 5 hour video, complete with all the sides conversations, distractions, and noise.  As exciting (not) as many of these videos are, 5 hours is a bit excessive, so I starting editing the videos for content and length, and the more recent sessions clock in at around 45 minutes.  Much more concise, though still a stretch…

  • As if I don’t have enough distractions, I am going to attempt to add yet another one, related to hobby and gaming efforts that have been shelved for quite some time.  A long time ago, I used to paint miniatures for roleplay and wargaming, a task I enjoyed but as life came along, could not spare the time. I recently received a copy of Zombicide: Black Plague, a game I have been interested in for quiet a while, and this has motivated me to pull out the old paints and start painting again.  Hopefully the old inks and colors are…

  • So I haven’t been that successful continuing my ongoing chain of postings recently, after missing yesterday’s deadline yet again.  The good news is the habit is strong enough to make me realize the miss, but not strong enough to keep me from avoiding it. In truth, I have been allowing myself to get rather distracted.  Between getting back from vacation, resuming work, various projects around the house, a renewed interest in Ark: Survival Evolved, and the acquisition of Total War: Warhammer during the current Steam summer sale, I have been doing far more entertainment and far less “productive” tasks. The…

  • Although we haven’t played in quite a while, we are resuming our alternate gaming group this coming Sunday, and starting/continuing a campaign based on the Warhammer FRP game (second edition version).  This is not the Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords group, but actually my original group of far more experienced players. Its been a few years since we have played Warhammer, and I know that the version we are using is rather outdated these days – to the extent that there was a 3rd edition that has already come and gone.  Rumor is that a 4th edition is in the…

  • In my continuing quest to fine tune my home computer network, I am tackling another reorganization.  Currently, this website and some other functionality is residing on an Oracle VM Virtual Box configuration, running several virtual machines which each in turn run Ubuntu.  It dawned on me, that the same computer which runs the virtual box app, could be reloaded directly with Ubuntu instead, and simply run the same applications natively – ie, there is no real need for isolated and independent OS installs, and the core Windows OS on the system doesn’t really gain anything except for patch reboots and…

  • As previously posted, I run much of my home network (and this website) on a FreeNAS server, currently running version 9 after a recent downgrade from the failed version 10 release.  Recently, FreeNAS 11 was released as a stable version, so I have been eager to upgrade to the new functionality – but hesitant due to the prior problems with 10. With my work travel plans disrupted this week, and the kids off at Cub Scout day camp, I found I had a lot of spare time, so I gambled and took the plunge.  Fortunately there is a direct upgrade…
