• Seems that each time I post tech problems I manage to fix them shortly after, which has held true for the Nextcloud server. Shortly after I posted yesterday, I had a breakthrough and the service is now running again, and successfully with ssl encryption, from the same server as my wordpress site. A quick update on each client, and an update to the site url link, and all my files are syncing again.

  • Continuing to be challenged by Nextcloud.  Over the weekend, I ended up running an ill-advised system update, which I believed updated PHP on the Nextcloud server, which in turn broke Nextcloud.  Not that critical, but painful to rebuild, so my secondary option is to move it to my WordPress server, since they share similar function. Unfortunately, continuing to struggle now with SSL certificates.  This wordpress site isn’t that critical that security is needed, but Nextcloud benefits from encryption.  So I am trying to get https://www.halfling13.com to go to wordpress, and https://www.halfling13.com to go to nextcloud.  It was previously working, but…

  • Going to be enjoying the holidays over the next couple of weeks with the family, so likely my posting updates will be a bit more random. Have been reviewing the past several weeks worth of content, and although I have been getting lots of comments, none of them thus far have been of any value.  In truth, the only comments I receive are spam-bots and similar, which of course are auto-filtered out by the site and never end up getting posted.  It is curious to see just how many of those hit the site, even though I know my efforts…

  • So I got distracted this week, and with a shorter than normal travel schedule, I ended up not working on the planned zombie horde.  Instead, I have been spending many hours working on an automated GURPs character sheet, in preparation for my January GURPs Warhammer campaign.  Will try to work on the zombies next week, unless I continue to be distracted, especially with the holidays coming up.

  • Been pondering my options for a new campaign for the new year, something to replace our existing Hero System Champions campaign (which has faltered and stalled out with the holidays), and have come up with an interest in a Warhammer Fantasy world setting.  However, the current version of Warhammer Fantasy is rather out of date (and I don’t have the Fantasy Flight version) – and I have a number of hang-ups on the system itself.  In general, the rpg system options are bad, but the setting is great. On the other hand, I really like the general rule set for…

  • With my travel this week, I have the next set of Zombicide zombies to paint ready to go.  This time, I am starting with a zombie-green base coat, which may make the process a little faster.  The challenge however is that the set is 14 identical zombies.  Although they will have some variety, I am not intending for as much variety as with the prior set.

  • With the holidays, my regularly scheduled games have been a bit up in the air.  The Pathfinder – Rise of the Runelords campaign is still going, but has been cancelled once or twice due to conflicts.  However, we have a bonus game this weekend, and a regular one next weekend, so should be able to move forward again.  And will give me a chance to try out some new gadgets 🙂 As for the Superhero campaign, that one appears to have fizzled out.  Between a combination of scheduling challenges (more than a few games have been cancelled), the holidays, and…

  • Thanks to some lucky bitcoin investments, I decided it was time to finally upgrade to a 4k TV within the last few weeks.  And since I try to do all my shopping online, I opted to take the risk, and try a online order for a wide screen TV – understanding the risks associated with shipping, but naively expecting those to be a non-issue these days. Unfortunately, the process was not nearly as painless as hoped. Although the deal was decent, it ended up being thru Best Buy, a shopping location I have avoided now for several years.  However, the…
