Back when I started this site, and mainly when I started editing and posting videos (and then podcasts), I had never really expected this hobby to turn a profit or really make much money at all. And over the years, my total earnings have come up to approximately $1 – not even enough for a cup of coffee (or to receive a check). Not an issue as well, this is less of a job, and more of an interest.

It has been some time since I worked on any of the videos and podcasts of our gaming sessions, so I decided to jump back in. Unfortunately, I have built up quite a backlog of material in various formats, so it is a rather intimidating hill to climb. In order to eliminate what I hope is a significant amount of time, I started to play with a free trial of Adobe Premier Pro, as an alternative to Davinci Recode. Its been a very long time, but I have decided on yet another shift in traditional tools – dropping Chrome in favor of Mozilla/Firefox. I recall way back in my college days, Firefox was the upstart browser compared to Internet Explorer (along with Opera), but never clicked with me. After college, I used Internet Explorer for a long time, before finally jumping over to Chrome perhaps 20+ years ago. Its the end of a long week, and we have a big snow storm supposedly coming in this evening. Initially, the prediction was for 8+ inches of snow on top of a layer of ice – that has since been reduced to only a few inches. Of course that doesn’t stop the locals from panic, and stocking up on milk and bread. My computer migration efforts are wrapped up now, the website is running comfortably on the hosting site, and Nextcloud is purged from the environment. Heading home again today from Toledo, following yet another work trip. Always nice to get home, though admittedly there are times when it is good to be able to focus on work. In this case, it will be nice to get home before the “big” snow storm supposedly comes thru and hits, the current prediction is lots of snow, ice, and sleet by Friday. By then, I will be safe and sound, warm in the house, and not have to go anywhere again for a while.

As commented yesterday, I have been undergoing another shift in my home server and the capabilities, to try to improve the overall performance and reliability. As part of this, I ended up trying to rebuild the Nextcloud personal cloud server, so that it would be more efficient. Previously, it was sharing a 300 GB VM with WordPress, for which I was only using the 15 GB of stored files (and barely anything for WordPress). So there was a lot of unused and wasted space. Spending some more time, re-juggling my website configuration and features, this time to move back to a hosted service. I have found that recent activity on my home server has fundamentally overwhelmed my little WordPress server, so I have had frequent registered outages. Of course, traffic is almost non-existent, so outages are not a big deal, but if I ever hope to grow an audience a reliable site is required. By the time this is posted, the WordPress site will be fully migrated and functional (it already is as I write this), and I am working on the Nextcloud portion…
