• Starting to dabble a bit more into 3d printing for fun and profit, with my first commissioned parts for a friend.  My recent successful prints have given me confidence that I know what I am doing, and can repeatedly succeed on the print jobs.  So my first effort is a printed set of parts, for a science experiment, using parts from Thingiverse. Unfortunately, the fickle 3d Printer gods are having fun with me, since as soon as I agreed to take on the job, the printer started to act up.  Since this morning, I have attempted more than a dozen…

  • For many months now, I have had an active Patreon account, which I am suspending for the time being.  Fundamentally, I like the idea, but I just don’t have enough interest in my content to actually receive any subscribers.  And honestly, I don’t generate enough content to actually justify a subscriber.  Perhaps in the future, I will attempt it again, whenever I can find regular subscribers, and perhaps after I sort out a means of regular content and updates.  For now it was one of my experiments that I simply will shut down.

  • 3d Printer has been running overtime recently, building up my stock of SW: Armada squadron plates.  I have these up for sale on my recently deployed Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Halfling13Hobbies) site.  Currently I have my listed ship time as 1-2 weeks, primarily so that I didn’t get surprised by a large order before I could create inventory.  Thus far, this doesn’t seem to be an issue, so likely be the end of the week I will adjust that timing down to 1-2 days.  Will continue to be an experiment, curious to see if there really is a market for such items.

  • If you have been a following of my on again off again podcast/video format, first of all thanks, but second I am likely going to discontinue that effort.  Realistically, it is a lot of effort to prepare the videos every other week, and the very small audience I seem to be reaching just isn’t worth the effort.  I will likely still record the games, I still enjoy that challenge, but the editing and publishing of the videos could fade away unless I get back a lot more motivation.  Instead, I am going to swap to more of a written format,…

  • Apparently something changed in my configuration, and my linked post to Facebook yesterday changed the site url from http to https.  This of course led to a warning when that link was followed, that the certificate was invalid (since I have no SSL configured), rather than opening the site directly.  For various reasons, it is not possible to automatically forward to http, and I have no justification to add a SSL certificate (at an increased yearly cost). Fortunately, the “fix” was fairly easy – just delete the connections to Facebook and re-create.  After a simple test, this appears to have…

  • With the latest 3d printer design, I decided to dabble a bit into the Etsy scene, and see if this machine might be able to pay for itself somewhat.  If you play Star Wars: Armada (or eventually other games), consider stopping by and placing an order.  Or just take a look at what I have to offer, and perhaps leave a comment. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Halfling13Hobbies Right now, I only have the Armada Squadron plates available, but I have some big ideas for Zombicide, Armada, and likely a few other games.

  • As I continue to tinker with the 3d printer and create miscellaneous tools for various games, I created what I believe is a fairly nice tool for Armada, specifically around the use of Squadrons.  A common issue is that when you have to adjust damage, it is difficult to adjust the model, without moving other pieces and putting it back down accurately.  So I had seen an idea which created a tracking system that stays on the sideline, but allows for the same tracking.  My modification, beyond designing a new template entirely, is that rather than using custom dials and…

  • Got a bit bored printing boxes for game storage, so I decided to print something fun, and ended up with a bust of Batman as a desk decoration.  Final print is about 6 1/2 inches tall, which sizes well for my desk.  It was printed from a Thingiverse design, with a 0.15 mm resolution and 15% infill.  You can see in the timelapse that the right hand side supports started to fail – I ended up sealing them to the bed with some superglue (probably not the best option, but I needed a quick fix).  The model still needs some…
