• The title is a bit of gibberish to those unaware, but this past weekend, before my trip, I managed to make time to try to upgrade my 3d printer to use the ADVi3++ firmware.  Basically, this means upgrading and re-flashing the firmware of the built-in controller board and LCD panel with the ADVi3++ software – a process which is at least a little risky.  I was not 100% confident, but the promised advantages outweighed the possible frustration of having to resolve any issues.

  • This weekend is our next scheduled attempt at starting and kicking off our Shadowrun campaign – after numerous false starts.  I know the characters are done, and the laptops and headsets are ready to go, now I just need schedules to cooperate.  And admittedly I need to review my planned notes, so I remember at this stage what the actual storyline was and where it was going.  If everything works according to plan, 2 PM to 7 PM on Sunday will be Shadowrun time, on alternating weekends with Pathfinder. As mentioned previously, I am trimming down and eliminating all the…

  • Its going to cause a delay to my various projects, but my schedule is back to Toledo again for work this week, with my ongoing need to be onsite with the client every other week.  As a result, my 3d Printer troubleshooting is on hold, and I have limited access to other options.  Ideally, I will be continuing my efforts to paint and prepare the Magic The Gathering trophy – that was my plan the last time I traveled – but I will have to see just how free my evenings are.

  • With great excitement, the group kicked off the start of the final chapter of the Rise of the Runelords campaign, the Spires of Xin-Shalast.  Having successfully escaped Runeforge last time with a collection of Domineering weapons, they are finally prepared for the quest to find Mhar Massif and the fabled city of greed, Xin-Shalast itself.  There, they hope to put an end to the threat of Karzoug, the reborn Runelord of Greed, and wrap up this campaign which is now approaching the end of a 3 year gaming group.

  • I have tried numerous possibilities, and I still can’t seem to resolve what appears to be the final quality issue with the 3d printer.  As you can see in the picture, I am getting gaps in the print at the start of the layer on the outer wall.  It isn’t consistent by layer, but of the last several prints, it is present.  I have tried slowing down the speed, reducing the retraction, increasing and decreasing the temperature, and adjusting the jerk and acceleration settings.  None seem to have any impact on this particular flaw, and I can’t seem to find…

  • With Labor Day in the United States this last weekend, I finally had a chance to sit down with my younger son and play Star Wars: Legion.  This is a game we picked up several months ago, and my son was very eager to do (he is all about the foot soldier games).  He selected the Empire, which left me with the Rebel Alliance.  In our case, we were only playing with the core set – we have seen several of the expansions, but until we actually played, we did not want to add additional units.  Given the various other…

  • My continuing efforts to 3d print and craft a set of dice boxes for our gaming group managed a bit more success yesterday, with a successful print in copper of the customized box top.  I have been having quite a bit of challenge with the cutout on the lid, which is printed first – the filament tends to catch and pull off, which then causes the entire assembly to separate.  With a slight bed adjustment, the print managed to catch and attach successfully, and eventually finish. Unfortunately, I still have some other mysteries – there continues to be a section…

  • Success over the weekend, with the conclusion of Chapter 5 of the Rise of the Runelords.  The group, rather focused this week, managed to wrap up the Halls of Wrath section of Runeforge, and escape back to Golarion.  In the process, they rather easily defeated the guardians, and it was only when the Barbarian opted to engage in single combat with the main villain was there a pause.  Initially that fight looked to be very fast, as he knocked her to 50% health on the first charge, but after summoning in an ally demon, and flying up out of the…
