Tonight marks the start of my dad’s annual visit, arranged this time specifically to be there for my youngest son’s birthday (which is this weekend). Â Always a good time, never long enough, but frequently challenging what with the kids ongoing complicated schedule (and my own). Â In this case, we have basketball practice, basketball games, and of course Ben’s birthday party (bowling with friends this year). Â With work occupying so much of my time, and our preparations for the kitchen remodel next week, it will no doubt be a weekend of juggling.

Had the chance to see Lego Batman with the family yesterday. Â Overall, I would say it was enjoyable, but not very fulfilling. Â As a long time Batman fan, and a fan of Lego, it could have been a very fun movie. Â And in general, it was fun. Â Unfortunately, it just felt like it didn’t really have any substance. Â There were a number of references to the old versions, movies, animated series, etc, which was entertaining, and a handful of decent jobs. Â However, the entire story seemed very rushed, and definitely overcrowded in characters. I know there was a desire to…

Taking the kids to see Lego Batman this evening, hopefully going to enjoy it as much as the reviews seem to imply. Â I always like Batman, and who doesn’t like Lego, so it should be fun. Â Not much of a post otherwise, most of my day has been focused on work related tasks, so not much time to do any creative writing.

After many game sessions, we finally managed the finale of Chapter 2, with the group facing the snake behind the scenes. Â In the previous session, the group had tracked the villain’s plot to the Shadow Clock, located in the Underbridge region of Magnimar. Â After dealing with the golem guardian at the base, they ascended the tower, only to be nearly killed when the tower bell was released and dropped on the group. Â As the group recovered, they split up, with several scattered in the tower interior, but the barbarian and druid rapidly reaching the top.

During our ongoing Pathfinder campaign, with the large 10 player group, we encountered a challenge. Â The group, having advanced a bit in levels, and acquired a bit of treasure, entered the city of Magnimar. Â Very soon, the thought became “what can we spend out money on?” Â For an experienced group, not a big deal, everyone would grab their rulebooks or already know what they were interested in. Â For a brand new group of players however, many of which do not own the rulebooks, the game immediately ground to a halt.

When we play Armada, one difficulty we have faced is that the damage cards, which sit on the side of the table in a small stack, have a tendency to get knocked over and slide around. Â Especially since I have them sleeved in plastic, they are a bit slippery at times. To solve this, I found a fun little addon from CorSec Engineering, the Starfight Damage Deck holder. Â Just a simple acrylic box, designed to hold the cards and keep them from sliding around. Â And overall, a very nice solution for the problem, and gives me a bit of a…

Since my prior post regarded Invisibility and house rules in my gaming, you might be tempted to think yesterday’s post is missing since it was invisible. Â In reality, I cant claim that, I simply didn’t have time to post anything thanks to my day job (which is filling my nights as well).

In the many years that I have played RPG and other games, one of the most difficult to balance and implement, without making it either too powerful or too weak for either the player group or the NPCs, has always been Invisibility. Â Each game has its own definitions of how to implement, how to use, and how to defeat such an ability, but it almost always leads to problems. Â Either the players take advantage of the power, or the NPCs are too strong, or invisibility is made so ineffective as to be nearly worthless.
