• With great excitement, the group kicked off the start of the final chapter of the Rise of the Runelords campaign, the Spires of Xin-Shalast.  Having successfully escaped Runeforge last time with a collection of Domineering weapons, they are finally prepared for the quest to find Mhar Massif and the fabled city of greed, Xin-Shalast itself.  There, they hope to put an end to the threat of Karzoug, the reborn Runelord of Greed, and wrap up this campaign which is now approaching the end of a 3 year gaming group.

  • I have tried numerous possibilities, and I still can’t seem to resolve what appears to be the final quality issue with the 3d printer.  As you can see in the picture, I am getting gaps in the print at the start of the layer on the outer wall.  It isn’t consistent by layer, but of the last several prints, it is present.  I have tried slowing down the speed, reducing the retraction, increasing and decreasing the temperature, and adjusting the jerk and acceleration settings.  None seem to have any impact on this particular flaw, and I can’t seem to find…

  • With Labor Day in the United States this last weekend, I finally had a chance to sit down with my younger son and play Star Wars: Legion.  This is a game we picked up several months ago, and my son was very eager to do (he is all about the foot soldier games).  He selected the Empire, which left me with the Rebel Alliance.  In our case, we were only playing with the core set – we have seen several of the expansions, but until we actually played, we did not want to add additional units.  Given the various other…

  • My continuing efforts to 3d print and craft a set of dice boxes for our gaming group managed a bit more success yesterday, with a successful print in copper of the customized box top.  I have been having quite a bit of challenge with the cutout on the lid, which is printed first – the filament tends to catch and pull off, which then causes the entire assembly to separate.  With a slight bed adjustment, the print managed to catch and attach successfully, and eventually finish. Unfortunately, I still have some other mysteries – there continues to be a section…

  • Success over the weekend, with the conclusion of Chapter 5 of the Rise of the Runelords.  The group, rather focused this week, managed to wrap up the Halls of Wrath section of Runeforge, and escape back to Golarion.  In the process, they rather easily defeated the guardians, and it was only when the Barbarian opted to engage in single combat with the main villain was there a pause.  Initially that fight looked to be very fast, as he knocked her to 50% health on the first charge, but after summoning in an ally demon, and flying up out of the…

  • You may have noticed, I have altered the timing for my daily posts.  Originally, I was posting on weekdays, and scheduling for 5 PM EST each day.  That worked, but in truth really encouraged me to create the posting at the last minute.  Since I have been trying to pre-schedule content as much as possible, in order to avoid forgetting or being distracted at the last minute, the time really has become rather arbitrary. I have also noticed thru metrics that several of my posts don’t really get any attention (of what little attention they do receive) during the same…

  • Several months ago, I posted about my project to craft and create a trophy for our annual Magic the Gathering tournament.  I managed to revisit this project this week, while I was spending time for work in Toledo.  Didn’t end up having as much time as I had hoped (we had a big outage to deal with), but I did manage to get a nice base coat of black on the model.  Admittedly, it looks like a large sculpture made out of tar, but that will be toned down heavily once I can start drybrushing and details. Our second annual…

  • Now that we had a chance to try the basic scenario of Star Wars: X-Wing, I have been eager to expand the collection.  However, I am making a point of only acquiring 2nd edition kits, mainly so I don’t have to deal with the conversion sets.  There are very few currently available, which helps the cost, but I did manage to pick up a set of Saw’s Renegades, one of the two last sets for 1st edition which are also compatible (out of the box) with 2nd edition.  The full release isn’t until mid-September, when the squad builder app becomes…
