The second character in our Rolemaster primer is The Miner, a Dwarf Fighter in Hadryn’s Hold. The concept is fairly traditional, a sword and board warrior dwarf who spends his days in the old iron mine of the village, and his evening providing muscle and assistance elsewhere. As a player idea, it was floated the concept of riding rams, due to the mountainous region and location of Hadryn’s Hold, something that we added in. As a result, the village keeps a small number of oversized rams, which are used both as mounts in the cliffs nearby, and as beasts of burden to haul the occasional heavy load of ore. Of note, the mine in the village is old and minimal – it still provides iron and raw materials to the town, but with only 30 families, there is limited need. As a result, the number of rams needed is also minimal.
However, as an expansion, the dwarf was very interested in at some point having a personal riding ram themselves. This is beyond “starting gear” level, so instead the Miner is raising a ram, a small, chaotic and troublesome kid that he takes care of each day. By agreement, if he is able to care for and keep alive the ram, then by the end of the first year the animal will have matured into a full grown adult. Of course, this may be easier said than done – baby goats can introduce all sorts of problems.
As usual, we have no actual character names yet, but the character is otherwise completed. Listed below are the PDF versions of the character sheet, or tune in for the session to learn more.
