• Planning on holding another game session of Twilight Imperium, sometime over the Christmas holiday. What better way to celebrate the spirit of peace and joy of the holidays, than to fight over galactic domination. At this point, tentatively looking at the 28th or 29th due to scheduling, but will really depend on player availability. Potentially will do both, since we are hoping to have the full group of 8 for the game this time – which will make it a longer game session (maybe stretching to both days). I hit upon the idea of creating and printing a trophy for…

  • After 7 full sessions, we drew a close to the first chapter of the Carrion Crown campaign. The final battle with the primary villain, the angry spirit of the Splatterman, was hard fought and very nearly rather deadly, but the group managed to pull out a win in the end. Of note, since we are converting a 1st edition campaign to 2nd edition, some of the mechanics I was a bit loose on. I had pre-determined most of the stats and abilities, based on the original intent, and overall I think it hit the right level of difficulty. To the…

  • As part of my design for the gaming table, I have several cutouts in the surface to accommodate cables and wires for the electronics. This allows me to have a mostly seamless surface, and still have the digital table and microphones – without cables going thru the table below, or on the surface. However, when we play other strategy games – Legion, Armada, etc. – it leaves several gaps in the hard surface. Although they are visually covered up with the game surface, that doesn’t do anything for the actual hole. In several games, pieces ended up on the gaps,…

  • In reviewing the video for the last Carrion Crown stream, I was dismayed to discover that the audio was rather poor. In general, the volume was too low. My own voice was passable and could be understood, and some of the players were quiet but still workable. About half the table though was effectively speaking on mute, with very little to no sound. Part of this is naturally the quality of my equipment, but that isn’t really a fair assessment – most of the issue really has to do with how I tune the environment. Mistake one is not having…

  • This weekend sees a return to our Carrion Crown campaign, following numerous conflicts over the last several weeks. I was going to pre-schedule a live stream on YouTube, but apparently a recent update has removed that option. Yes, we will be gaming, and there will be a live stream, but I can’t apparently pre-publish any longer. Tune in around 2 PM EST for the stream, if interested, always looking for potential viewers. Halfling13_Hobbies – YouTube This particular session is number 6 for Chapter 1. In theory, this may wrap up Chapter 1, though given our typical progress I expect it…

  • After the one-sided battle last week, we have challenged ourselves to repeat the battle, with lessons learned. Per our house standard, the victor (myself with Separatists) have not modified the force, while the loser (Republic) has made some adjustments. With those changes, a bit more time to analyze and consider the battlefield, and (hopefully) a change of luck, we will see what the impact to the game is. The field itself is set up to be as similar to before as possible – though likely still with a bit too much terrain. Mission objectives remain the same as well –…

  • After our extended October break, we resumed gaming with a kick off of Chapter 4 of the Extinction Curse campaign – Siege of the Dinosaurs. The group is now level 12, and traveling up the coast of the Starstone Isles to Willowside to investigate the final Aeon Tower and the events of the new region. For the story, I am departing a bit from the published adventure – per the official story, the circus continues to occupy the group and is part of the draw of the northern region. But for our group, the circus has become a forgotten remnant…

  • As planned, we played our latest round of Star Wars Legion. Not as planned, it turned out to be an overwhelming CIS victory, with the Galactic Republic surrendering midway thru turn 2. I don’t necessarily agree with the “lost cause” nature of the fight at that point, but it was certainly heavily slanted, and highly unlikely to have a change in direction. Functionally, it was a culmination of lots of bad luck – starting with mission selection. As the Blue player, I had to advantage on the mission options, having a slightly smaller force of 798 to 800. After removing…
