• Viewport #5, June 1 2024

Latest news and happening with our weekly video blog, the Viewport (part of our efforts to establish TableTopTube), is now posted and available. Check in with our group weekly, on recent activities, behind the scenes information, and upcoming plans. This week, we had our planned group bowling trip, and posted battle report 081 for Legion. Upcoming, we have a recording session for battle report 082, and the restart of our various roleplaying efforts, including Kingmaker, The Enemy Within, and The Pirates of Drinax. I also dabble with AI technology and software, and have a few new ideas and concepts for…

  • Legion Battle Report 081 – Republic vs Empire

Our latest battle report should be live at this time, with a focused fight between the Republic and the Empire. We have Carter playing the Republic and George with the Empire, both are highlighting the recently released new units. For the Republic, we have the Clone Commandos, and for the Empire, we have Range Troopers. The video is available on the YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/jt_UDzecJeE. Both units are solid and intimidating, though in this particular battle the Range Troopers came out on top. I think the Clone Commandos are a good addition to the Republic, though they are already a…

  • Apothecary Paint Storage

I am quite happy to say that my design for what I am calling my Apothecary Paint Storage option is finally finished, after a couple of months of design, test cuts and revisions. Everything fits together well, and all the sizes are accurate (at least for my materials of 2.8mm and 5mm thickness). I have added the plans to Etsy, available immediately for purchase for anyone interested in building their own. The plans are also added to our YouTube Membership rewards, if and when we grow to that level. I do not currently plan on selling physical versions, both due…

  • Kingmaker preparations

We are rapidly approaching the start of our new Pathfinder campaign, using the Kingmaker adventure path (the revised and updated version for Pathfinder 2e). Artwork for the sessions is being finalized, and characters are just about done. Will be an interesting mix of characters, I have challenged all the players to play some class they have not played before, so the entire group dynamic is being shuffled around. For the 7 players, I have most of the ancestries and classes, and a few of the names, as summarized below. Our campaign kicks off on June 2, with a bi-weekly Sunday…

  • Behind the Brush

Months ago, I posted a video or two I titled “Behind the Brush” – short demonstrations and examples of the painting techniques I used. Very primitive and basic but accomplished their simple goal. However, they didn’t get much traction, I suspect mainly because they were so basic. With my recent efforts to do more talking to the camera type content, and my ongoing efforts to make a dent in the painting backlog, I have decided to restart this effort, but in a new form. Using my new camera, my intent is to do a live-stream painting session and behind the…

  • Star Wars Legion – Republic Clone Commandos

New unit deployment, acquired and painted on schedule. The Republic Clone Commandos are deployed, ready for close range suppression and engagement. Similar to the Range Troopers, the Clone Commandos ended up being pretty straightforward – they are really only two primary colors, plus some additional adjustments, as listed below for my recipe: Overall, I would say I spent about 4 hours, mainly in considering and debating on the approach for white armor, and then to try to be careful on the drybrushing. I ended up second guessing myself after the layer of Nuln Oil – the armor looked very dingy…

  • Star Wars Legion – Empire Range Troopers

New unit deployment, acquired and painted on schedule. The Imperial Range Troopers enter the field with long-range firepower and armored defense. I was concerned on the timing for the build and painting, but the Range Troopers ended up being pretty straightforward – they are really only two primary colors, plus some additional adjusments, as listed below for my recipe: Overall, I would say I spent about 4 hours, but really only due to the number of models, and needing to wait for the layers to dry. Very straightforward and simple – the assembly was really the hardest part given the…

  • New Star Wars Legion units

As planned, I picked up a set of each of the new Star Wars Legion units, the Republic Clone Commandos and the Imperial Range Troopers. Typical to the packaging, they come as unassembled models, requiring glue, primary, paint and time. In an effort to fight my backlog, my goal recently has been to acquire, build, paint, and finish each new set the same weekend they arrive, which I have been somewhat successful on. These sets were more of a challenge, given the 11 combined models in the sets. Fortunately however the color schemes are fairly simple – really only 2…
