Managed to grab the new Weequay Pirates expansion for Star Wars Legion on Friday, and spent Saturday evening assembling the squad. This set comes with 10 figures, including your choice of either Hondo Ohnaka or a generic Weequay squad leader – but since I have the early release copy of Hondo, I ended up with the generic captain and a total of 11 models. Unfortunately, a couple of the models are duplicated – one design has 3 copies, another design as 2 copies, so there is really only about 5 or 6 unique sculpts. This is still plenty for some variability, especially given their rather chaotic color schemes.

With them assembled, I ended up just diving in and painting the lot of them – I had planned on just a Zenithal coat, but once that was done I really felt they needed some color. This was accomplished with Citadel Contrast Paints, using a smaller selection of about 12 colors, and some randomness on the locations. Mainly I changed the shirt or pants between a collection of 4 colors for variety, then added the same detail colors (skin, gear, weapons, etc) to all of them the same. Conviently, the extra colorful model of Hondo uses the same color combination, plus a bit of yellow for his pet, so by the end they were all very cohesive.
I honestly don’t know how much action they will get – the character of the characters is always fun in the stories, but I am not personally a big fan of mercenary units tactically in the game. We are planning a session this evening which will feature them though, and give the lot a chance to shine and profit in a battle.
