Conclusion of Chapter 1

After 7 full sessions, we drew a close to the first chapter of the Carrion Crown campaign. The final battle with the primary villain, the angry spirit of the Splatterman, was hard fought and very nearly rather deadly, but the group managed to pull out a win in the end.

Of note, since we are converting a 1st edition campaign to 2nd edition, some of the mechanics I was a bit loose on. I had pre-determined most of the stats and abilities, based on the original intent, and overall I think it hit the right level of difficulty. To the groups credit, they quickly ignored the haunt in the area, opting to ignore it instead of destroying it – this saved a fair bit of damage from a collapse of the chamber. However, it also caused a lot of additional challenge, since the warrior-types could not pass any of their saving throws. Within the first several rounds, multiple warriors were down due to Wisdom loss, especially the ghost-hunter barbarian who would have been far more helpful. The groups champion was semi-resistant, but was at least partially nullified when he stepped onto the obliette opening, sinking into the watery tunnel. Given his heavy armor and gear, plus the spiritual influence, it was rather close for him to be able to resurface before drowning.

For the full details, and the complete story thus far, reference our playlist on YouTube. Audio is finally at acceptable levels, at least for this last session (prior ones are a bit hit and miss), but we did have an echo issue since one player was remote on Discord. I didn’t have a way to test that piece, so there is an echo each time the player speaks (which isnt that impactful, since it was not that common).

In two weeks, the group continues on to Chapter 2 and Lepidstadt, to complete their inheritance requirements and perhaps visit the trial of the Beast of Lepidstadt.
