• With our most recent Carrion Crown campaign session, the group reached a major milestone, and finally concluded the trial of the Beast of Lepidstadt. The first few days had been a bit hit and miss, and the trial was not going well. However, on the last night, the group started to follow up on many of the original clues, and eventually traced the true villains to a pair of body snatchers hiding in the city. Vorkstag and Grines, upstanding businessmen in Lepidstadt, were actually a Fey and a Dark Creeper, using their abilities and talents to become rich and distract…

  • If you have been following along with our Carrion Crown campaign, the group has been heavily involved in the trial of the century, the trial of a creature known as the Beast of Lepidstadt. A flesh golem with apparent low-level intelligence, the monster is said to have terrorized the local countryside for the last 40 years. Everything from noises at night, failure of crops, citizens that go missing, or even bad weather has been attributed to the creature. A few days ago, the Beast was captured, after breaking into the local University and stealing a seemingly meaningless artifact, though the…

  • Actually running a bit behind at this stage, by this point I was supposed to have played game 4 of our tournament, but I have been unable to get a response from the other player. I did manage to play Round 3 though, against a solid Republic force. The clones were outfitted with Rex and Amidala, and supported by only Phase 1 clones. A few mixed weapons, and quite a bit of heavy saves. The field was a control point mission, with the usual mixed terrain and coverage. I of course had my standard Skirmish force of Rebels. Very unusually,…

  • Been receiving a lot of great interest in our gaming sessions recently, which is wonderful, so I wanted to share our upcoming schedule. You can see our full game schedule calendar publicly online as well at https://www.halfling13.com/upcoming-s… Our Star Wars Legion Battle Report, Episode 124, is just about edited and done, and bring General Tagge to the field facing off against the Separatists. I think I am on schedule to publish it by Monday. Kingmaker was scheduled for tomorrow, but one of our players is recovering from acute appendicitis, so this round was cancelled. Next game is scheduled for May…

  • Ran our second round of the local competition, continuing with my existing Rebel skirmish force. This time, the battle was against another Rebel force, led by Princess Leia. The competition was fierce, and I started off on the defensive. The opponent’s army was heavy on Scouting, and Leia hands out lots of dodge tokens. That made it a very fast attack force, and in the first round I had lost 2 of my 6 units. With my units on the defensive, I managed to control the battlefield with the A-A5 Speeder truck and started to strike back. Unfortunately, I believe…

  • In our ongoing Extinction Curse campaign, we have been having a challenge in the group dealing with mind control – specifically charm, dominate, etc. type spells and effects. The group is investigating the existing of an old cult, which worshipping an ancient evil, fond of taking over minds and influencing actions. The group, especially the fighter and barbarian, have been being rather frustrated. As a GM, over the years I have developed a mixed bag of feelings on charm effects – on one hand, I really dislike taking player control out of the hands of the player. I would really…

  • Haven’t posted much recently on our active Pathfinder campaigns, though both are still going strong. This weekend is our next Extinction Curse session, with the Carrion Crown continuing next week. Despite the upcoming Superbowl, the story will continue (seems no one is really interested in the football teams). For the Extinction Curse, the group is exploring an ancient cultist dungeon under the town, searching for an artifact that the Xulgath army is demanding. If successful, and willing to turn it over, the town will be spared. If not, the Xulgaths will attack and attempt to destroy the town. During the…

  • Evolving our Warfare Wednesday activities to try out a new game (new to me) of Malifaux. Not very familiar with the mechanics and background, but I have seen the figures in the store. As I understand, it is fundamentally a steampunk skirmish game, with a card draw mechanic rather than dice. Looks intriguing, and definitely more interested in a small scale game compared to another large army game. Will see how well it works out tonight, from watching a few videos, the play seems non-intuitive, but I understand the logic.
