• Reinbeer Flight

Since apparently my plan for slate and cork coasters is on hold due to indefinite shipping delays for the blanks at Amazon, I focused in on my Reindeer Flight gift box design instead. This is something I made last year for the wife as a give-away to family, designed to hold 6 festive bottles of beverages. Rather complex design, making sure all the cuts and angles work out, but a fairly simple assembly. Last year, the design worked well – I made several and they were all successful. This year however when I went to remake them, some of the…

  • New Product Lines

With the new laser, I am looking into alternate product lines. I have revised and renewed a couple older projects, but I am looking at several designs for drink coasters as an expansion. I have always been entertained by various designs, typically meme-inspired. And with a faster and more capable laser, I am having a bit of fun creating a few options. In particular, I am looking at very basic cork coasters, and a bit more high-end slate coasters. Admittedly the market is saturated with both (so lots of competition), but there is also an infinite number of designs and…

  • I made the dive into a larger world, and upgraded the current Laser cutting setup with a new machine. Previously, all my projects ran with an xTool D1 Pro, with a basic 10W LED laser. I had the option at the time for the 40W, but opted for the lower power mainly due to cost, but also since it has a much more precise laser dot. However, where I messed up was not realizing that acrylic is a challenge (or impossible) for LED lasers to cut, which was one of the main projects I wanted to be able to do.…

  • Patreon renewed

After quite a bit of quiet time, I am renewing my Patreon site for sponsorship. About a year or so ago, I dropped Patreon as a bit of experiment, since I didn’t have any supporters anyway, and switched instead to a YouTube Membership format. This made it easier to update and post, as well as to allow early releases. However, after another bunch of content, the situation hasn’t changed (still no supporters, which is fine). I suspect part of the issue is that YouTube Memberships are strange to a lot of people – virtually every video I watch instead points…

  • Following the recent Gencon convention, I obtained a copy of Mothership, which is one I have been considering for quite some time. I have heard a great many good things about it, and I am always looking for newer systems with unique twists to the game. Happily, I was not disappointed, and I am working on a set of one-shot adventurers for the October/November time frame. More information to come on that. One of the big systems in Mothership is the rules on Stress, or what would have been Insanity in Call of Cthulhu or other older games. This is…

  • 3d Printer Profiles

I want to call out and thank YouTuber MM’s PropShop for their recent assistance with my 3d printers. If you have any interest in Star Wars, droids, or 3d printing, they are an inspirational source, frequently posting videos on the creation of numerous life size models, with professional level painting. If you haven’t subscribed to them, do so with haste. Their work inspired me to previously print the B1 Battle Droid, which is sitting nicely in a corner in my basement, and then recently the IG-88 “Nursing Droid” (all models are available from DroidDivision – AKA Bob’s 3D Printable Droids…

  • As mentioned yesterday, I obtained the Mothership RPG following Gencon (ordered directly from Tuesday Knight Games, since I could not obtain it at the convention). I only have the PDFs for now, the physical books will be a week or two, but from what I am reading thus far, I am really impressed. I had heard great things about the game, both thru various articles and some YouTube reviews, but many of those can be biased based on sponsors. I know most groups try not to bias things, but some naturally slips in when it is a promo copy or…

  • It was a successful trip to Gencon this last weekend, both kids and I had a lot of fun, though ended up rather tired. Two days later, and my muscles are still feeling all the hiking. The show itself was sold out, so it was good that we pre-purchased tickets (and had them shipped, the lines for pickup were rather long). We did wear our new logo t-shirts, and I was quite happy to have at least 2 people recognize the channel. Neither ended up stopping to talk, which is fine, we were in the vendor halls so it would…
