Ages ago, we used to play World of Warcraft extensively, and were initially guild members and then eventually guild leaders (RIP Stargazers and Juggernauts). This occupied many years, many expansions, and untold hours of effort. However, as time moved on, the friends we met drifted off, and the content lost its shine and interest. Warcraft is still a big game, but we gave up on it shortly after the kids arrived, though we do occasionally revisit here an there.

However, there is a new game coming out (supposedly September 28, 2021, though it has been delayed a few times) that has caught our interest. Titled New World, it is a black-powder and magic based game, themed around a lost and cursed island. It is a current generation MMO, meaning that the number of players should be extensive, and the social aspects will be much stronger. The game does have a large PvP content, but it is entirely optional, and from what we can see from the short open beta, plenty of standard story as well.

Classes dont exist – all advancement is action based. Spend time swinging a sword – your sword skill gets better. Harvest a tree, your wood gathering improves, etc. There is the aspects of tanks, dps, and healers, but it is much more about where you have practiced then a simple choice and advancement tree.

If this sounds of interest to you, I would invite you to take a look, and perhaps give it a try. I will be opening up our Discord to any would-be players, and would welcome anyone to game with us in a more casual approach. Almost certainly, we will form a Company (New World speak for guild), but eventually we will more than likely join up with a larger, more established group – if only to minimize the effort. For our schedule, given kids activities and real life, I doubt we will be nearly as hard-core as we were before, but it would be nice to have evening adventures and the occasional raid again.
