Green Screen Magic

Part of my side activities includes being the Den Leader for a growing den of Webelos Cub Scouts.  Our current activity involves making a movie, to demonstrate the traits of being a scout, an activity that the boys have eagerly been working on.  The basic premise is simple, develop a script and film a short film to present at a pack meeting.  To this end, they brainstormed ideas, picked their themes, chose costumes and cast, and even make or collected props.  The only difficulty we have is with some of the settings – being scouts they tended to be overly optimistic on their setting options.  So instead, I have offered the option of attempting a green-screen effect, and providing any background they wanted.

I have never actually tried it before, but with a $30 kit from Amazon, and access to Premiere Pro, I don’t think it will be that difficult.  Of course, I could be wrong, and it will be an obvious novice effort – which would fit much of the production as well.  I have high hopes, we have our final filming set for next week on Friday, so I will see how the overall project turns out.
