Managed to enjoy a game of Star Wars: Armada this weekend, introducing a couple of new players to the game. The fleets were fairly basic – I intentionally limited the number of upgrade cards to make it easier to absorb. However, this lead to quite a few ships on the field, since less upgrades certainly adds a lot of ships.

The mission we ended up with was Navigational Hazards, which was one that I had not experienced yet. My conclusion though is that it really seemed irrelevant as a mission – each time we moved the obstacles, it ended up being a draw and more of an annoyance than a tactical challenge.

Final score was very even – both teams had a good showing. The Rebels managed to catch the Imperial Star Destroyer in a good position, and had it destroyed by turn 5, and the Empire managed to one-shot a couple of the fast Rebel ships. Fighter squadrons ended up with strong showings also, though both sides rapidly dwindled in the first turns.

At this stage, we have two more eager Armada players, which brings us another step closer to attempting one of the large multi-game campaigns.
