If you haven’t been keeping up with the Warhammer storyline, we resume the campaign tonight with a large-scale battle over the coalmines of Black Peaks. Originally, this was founded by a clan of dwarves, but in recent times it was sold to a wizard who wanted to move into the area. The locals consider it a fair and legal sale, but the dwarves are convinced that the wizard bewitched them and have now stolen all the gold they know (but never found) exists in the tunnels. Enter the group, attempting to locate and find the wizard, who have now become…

Thanks to an open schedule, and willing players, we have many new Legion battle reports on the way. I have the next two videos ready to go, pending on YouTube, and a 3rd one to edit down, plus another game scheduled for tonight. Should easily take us into November, with the current release schedule. Several of the games are using the new IG-88 and Din Djarin models, Din is proving to be a powerhouse figure. I do expect he will likely be adjusted in points in the future, but for now he is a very strong option. Current plan is…

So after a bit of experimentation, I am dropping the YouTube Short format. The first video or two did decently, but that has rapidly dropped off. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but most likely they are just not the catchy content that YouTube intends (and that attracts viewers). They are not that complex to edit and create, perhaps an hour or so after the main video is created, but if it doesn’t generate interest, then it is a wasted effort. And realistically, 60 seconds is simply not enough time to really tell the story of a battle report –…

On the topic of painting, I have been recently working on improving my painting techniques. In general, I use Citadel Contrast Paints for most (or even all) the basic colors on my miniatures – they work well and make the process quick. They are not necessarily competition level, but certainly very good for tabletop games, and certainly beats the generic grey plastic. Once the contrast is applied though, in occasion I still want to apply a drybrush to the highlights. This has been particularly useful in the Legion game, with the Empire forces, which otherwise have a lot of simple…

Running into challenges recently maintaining our gaming schedule, thanks to the Fall schedule in sports and other activities. As always, family and homework come first, which means a number of our players have been missing or will miss sessions. This results in the cancellation or delay of some games. Most notable is our Star Wars Legion games, after 14 regular weekly battles, the schedule caught up to me and we missed the latest last week. I have a set of games scheduled this week however which will put us back on schedule and hopefully give me some lead time again.…

Successful repair operation to replace the extruder fan on the Prusa i3MK3 3d printer. As previously reported, I was receiving sporadic temperature failures, which eventually lead to complete failures whenever the first layer was completed. The screen indicated either a TMC overtemp error, or a Crash Detected. In reality, it was neither. Instead, it was a broken connection on the front extruder fan, resulting in either a loss of connectivity or a short circuit. I would have easily wasted a lot of time troubleshooting issues but ended up stumbling onto the fix accidentally. During my testing, I flashed the firmware,…

Been tinkering with my default Legion graphics and looking for some feedback. Specifically, I have a couple options, and I am looking for what works and what doesn’t. For episode 6, I have two choices, but I am open for other suggestions. Goal is for the thumbnail of the videos – give me some honest feedback. First option is the default, this is the format that I have been using for some time, I adjust each session based on the content using a basic template. However, most other similar battle report videos seem to default to a snapshot of one…

Been dealing with a problem with my 3d printer, the Prusa i3MK3s that I have been running for the last couple of years. Up until recently, it has been running very well – solid prints, reliable operation, no major issues. In recent months, I did have an issue with bed adhesion to the removable build plate, but that was resolved with a surface treatment. However, as of last week, I started having a new issue. The printer starts correctly, calibrates the level, and then starts printing. Everything runs fine, until the end of the first layer, at which point the…
